Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant with strong hands-on experience in accounting, tax preparation, tax review, and client communication.
This is a client-facing position. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing assigned clients, reviewing accounting work, preparing and reviewing tax returns, discussing accounting and tax matters directly with clients, and coordinating with our internal accounting and tax teams.
Key Responsibilities:

Serve as a primary accounting and tax contact for assigned clients.

Communicate directly with clients regarding accounting, bookkeeping, tax returns, tax planning, and compliance matters.

Review accounting and bookkeeping work completed by staff before presenting financial information to clients or preparing tax returns.

Review Profit & Loss Statements, Balance Sheets, General Ledgers, bank reconciliations, and supporting schedules for accuracy.

Identify accounting errors, missing transactions, incorrect classifications, and reconciliation issues and coordinate necessary corrections.

Conduct monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting reviews with clients when required.

Explain financial statements and accounting issues to clients in a clear and professional manner.

Prepare and review individual and business tax returns, including Forms 1040, 1120-S, 1120, and 1065.

Review prior-year tax returns and current-year financial information to identify potential tax issues and planning opportunities.

Discuss tax returns with clients, explain major changes, and answer client questions before filing.

Assist with tax planning and tax-saving strategies for business owners and individual clients.

Review depreciation, fixed assets, payroll, owner compensation, distributions, shareholder/partner transactions, and other year-end tax adjustments.

Assist clients with estimated tax payments and federal and state tax compliance.

Review and respond to IRS, California FTB, EDD, and other tax notices as assigned.

Work closely with bookkeepers, accountants, tax preparers, and Client Relations to ensure work is completed accurately and on time.

Review work prepared by junior accountants and provide corrections, guidance, and training.

Follow up directly with clients for missing information and resolve accounting and tax questions.

Manage multiple client engagements and ensure deadlines are met.
Qualifications:

4–6+ years of accounting and tax experience preferred.

CPA firm or public accounting experience strongly preferred.

Strong hands-on experience with both accounting and tax preparation.

Experience reviewing accounting work and tax returns.

Strong knowledge of individual and business taxation.

Experience with S Corporations, C Corporations, Partnerships, LLCs, and individual tax returns.

Strong QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online experience.

Experience with Lacerte, ATX, ProSeries, UltraTax, or similar professional tax software preferred.

Strong understanding of federal and California tax requirements.

Excellent client communication skills.

Ability to independently speak with clients about their accounting and tax matters.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to supervise and review the work of junior accounting staff.

Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
CPA or EA designation is preferred but not required. Strong practical experience in accounting, taxation, review, and client management is highly valued.
We are specifically seeking someone who can take ownership of assigned clients — review their accounting, understand their business, communicate with them directly, prepare and review their tax returns, identify tax issues, and coordinate with our team to ensure high-quality and timely service.
Pay: $65,000.00 - $96,000.00 per year
