Job description

  • Analytics Engineers build the data foundation for the whole team - which translates to impact on all stakeholders with insights, analysis and experimentation

  • As a Senior Analytics Engineer, you will own major projects that build out the data foundation for Airbnb.org: designing and delivering the data models, metrics and dashboards that power our reporting, analysis and experimentation, and continuously raising the bar on data quality and reliability for the systems you build

  • Many of these projects will start out vaguely defined, and you will bring structure to them by breaking down the work, weighing tradeoffs, and delivering solutions that are efficient, reliable and simple to maintain

  • Data can transform how an organization operates; high data quality and tooling is the biggest lever to achieving that transformation

  • You will partner closely with stakeholders across Marketing, Fundraising, Programs, Product and Engineering to understand their data needs, translate business questions into well-defined metrics and data products, and prioritize your work in line with Airbnb.org’s goals

  • You will work alongside our existing data team - Analytics Engineer, Analyst and Data Scientist - sharing knowledge, seeking and giving feedback, and collaborating with Data Engineering and Data Platform teams to get things built

  • Design, build and launch efficient, reliable and maintainable data models and pipelines that power reporting, analysis and experimentation, in partnership with Data Engineering

  • Design, define and implement metrics and dimensions for Airbnb.org, and document them clearly so they are trusted and used consistently across teams

  • Own data quality for the tables and pipelines you build: implement testing, auditing and validation, respond to data incidents, and follow through on corrective actions that go beyond the immediate fix

  • Identify and improve or deprecate low-quality or duplicative data assets, and plan quality improvements into the team’s roadmap

  • Design and develop dashboards and self-serve data products that make data discoverable, trusted and easy to consume

  • Write clear technical designs that lay out benefits, risks and tradeoffs; seek and incorporate peer feedback, and provide constructive input on others’ designs and code

  • Understand stakeholder needs across Marketing, Fundraising, Programs, Product, Data Science and Engineering, and prioritize work within your projects to align with Airbnb.org’s goals; mentor and share knowledge with fellow data practitioners

Benefits

  • Paid volunteer time

  • Health food and snacks

  • Generous parental and family leave

  • Learning and development

  • Annual travel and experiences credit- You will bring strong expertise in metric development, dimensional data modeling, SQL, Python, and distributed data processing frameworks, and a solid understanding of how the pieces of a modern data stack fit together

  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or a closely related field

  • Experience owning major data projects end to end, including ones that started out loosely defined, from scoping and design through delivery

  • Passion for high data quality, attention to detail, and an ownership mindset toward the reliability of what you build

  • Solid experience in dimensional data modeling, schema design and metric definition

  • Strong SQL skills and experience optimizing queries on distributed data processing systems (e.g. Spark, Presto, Hive)

  • Proficiency in at least one programming language for data work (e.g. Python) and experience with an ETL/orchestration framework like Airflow

  • Proven ability to succeed in both collaborative and independent work environments

  • Ability to communicate technical solutions and tradeoffs clearly to both technical and non-technical partners, and to adapt to competing priorities

  • Preferred: Minerva and Tableau skills, and an eye for design when it comes to dashboards and visualization tools
