With operations in 17 countries and employing over 6,000 staff worldwide, our business responds to the needs of our clients by delivering high-value engineering expertise tailored to our clientsโ€™ most complex challenges.

In the UK, we have a key focus in the Nuclear sector, contributing to ground breaking projects, such as Hinkley Point C (HPC).

The Position: Senior Civil Engineer - Major Infrastructure & Nuclear New Build

Vulcain Engineering is seeking experienced Civil Engineers to support the delivery of a major nuclear new build programme in the UK. This position offers the opportunity to work on the technical oversight, design review and delivery of complex civil engineering structures and specialist containment systems throughout the project lifecycle.

Working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, you will contribute to design governance, contractor management, technical assurance and the resolution of engineering challenges associated with large reinforced concrete structures, containment structures, tanks, basins, water-retaining structures, embedded steelwork and specialist infrastructure assets.

Some of the main responsibilities of the Senior Civil Engineer will include:

  • Provide technical oversight and engineering support for major civil engineering and infrastructure packages.

  • Review and assess contractor and supplier design deliverables to ensure compliance with project requirements and engineering standards.

  • Support the development, review and maintenance of technical specifications and engineering documentation.

  • Manage and respond to technical queries arising during design, procurement, manufacture and construction phases.

  • Undertake technical surveillance activities and support contractor performance monitoring.

  • Participate in design reviews, technical workshops and multidisciplinary engineering meetings.

  • Contribute to constructability assessments, design integration activities and project delivery strategies.

  • Capture, share and implement lessons learned to support continuous improvement across engineering activities.

Joining Vulcain Engineering offers the opportunity to contribute to one of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes while working alongside highly experienced engineering professionals. You will gain exposure to complex engineering challenges, innovative design solutions and long-term career opportunities across major energy, nuclear and infrastructure sectors.

Preferred Profile:

Alongside a commitment to our values of Care & Compassion, Performance, Team Spirit, and Inclusiveness, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following:

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

  • Experience within major infrastructure, energy, nuclear, defence, industrial, marine, water or large-scale construction projects.

  • Background in civil structures, reinforced concrete structures, structural engineering or infrastructure design.

  • Experience reviewing engineering designs, specifications and contractor deliverables.

  • Knowledge of design assurance, technical governance, engineering surveillance or quality management processes.

  • Experience supporting engineering contracts, contractor management or supplier interfaces.

  • Understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing and buildability considerations.

  • Experience with containment structures, tanks, basins, water-retaining structures, lined structures, embedded steelwork or similar specialist civil assets would be advantageous.

  • Familiarity with Eurocodes, British Standards or other recognised engineering design standards.

  • Previous experience within regulated industries, including nuclear, defence, energy, rail or utilities, would be beneficial.

  • Reside locally to Bristol or be prepared to relocate, as this permanent role does not include travel expense coverage.

Please note that visa sponsorship is not guaranteed and is assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on role criticality and project needs. Many of our UK projects require high-level security clearance, meaning we can often only consider candidates with an existing, indefinite right to work in the UK. Exceptionally, we may consider visa sponsorship for applicants with niche experience aligned to our core work (e.g. EPR/nuclear new build).

Remuneration & Benefits:

We offer a competitive salary tailored to your experience and background. Whether you're earlier in your career or bring more senior-level expertise, we encourage you to apply if this role aligns with your skills, or if you're open to discussing other opportunities within this discipline.
