Job description

Why this role matters

As our Senior Electrical Design Engineer, you will have significant influence over the electrical architecture of Dumarey Green Power's next generation of energy-storage products.

Our products combine batteries, flywheels, power electronics, controls and high-power electrical systems to solve real-world energy challenges. They operate in demanding applications where electrical performance, reliability and safety really matter.

You will be our go-to expert for electrical engineering, taking ownership of electrical design from initial concept and system architecture through detailed design, prototype build, testing and production release.

This isn't a role where you will simply execute somebody else's drawings. You will have the opportunity to make important engineering decisions, challenge existing solutions and help define how our future products are designed.

You will work closely with our systems, mechanical, controls, production and test teams, giving you visibility across the complete product rather than one small part of it.

For the right person, there is also the opportunity to develop into functional and team leadership as the business and our engineering capability continue to grow.

Ultimately, your work will help us develop energy-storage technology that reduces fuel consumption, emissions and wasted energy.

What you will be doing Electrical Architecture & Design

  • Take ownership of electrical system concepts, specifications and detailed electrical designs.

  • Design electrical systems incorporating 400VAC, up to 1000VDC and 12V/24V control systems.

  • Select and integrate power electronics, including inverters, motor drives and associated components.

  • Develop battery-system electrical architecture, including BMS wiring and interfaces.

  • Design control circuits and wiring for ECUs, PLCs, sensors and other control devices.

  • Develop electrical panel layouts and select components to achieve the required performance, safety and cost targets.

  • Produce high-quality electrical schematics and engineering documentation.

Product Development & Integration

  • Work closely with Systems Engineering to develop electrical concepts and system requirements.

  • Collaborate with Mechanical Engineering to ensure electrical systems are integrated effectively into our products.

  • Work with Controls Engineering to ensure hardware and control requirements work together as a complete system.

  • Develop prototype electrical designs and take a hands-on role in prototype build and testing.

  • Support design reviews, feasibility studies and technical decision-making.

Safety, Compliance & Production

  • Ensure designs meet relevant electrical, EMC and functional-safety requirements.

  • Support product compliance and certification, including CE and UKCA requirements.

  • Identify electrical-system risks and develop appropriate mitigations.

  • Support commissioning, production and fault-finding when required.

  • Produce the documentation required to release electrical designs into production.

  • Help ensure designs are practical to manufacture, service and support throughout the product lifecycle.

Technical Leadership & Innovation

  • Act as a senior electrical engineering authority within Dumarey Green Power.

  • Investigate new electrical technologies and identify opportunities to improve existing products or create new ones.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to colleagues across Engineering and Operations.

  • Help establish good electrical engineering practices, standards and processes across the business.

  • Depending on your experience and ambitions, take increasing responsibility for functional or team leadership.

What we are looking for

You are an experienced electrical engineer who enjoys taking ownership of complex technical problems and turning concepts into practical, robust products.

You are comfortable moving between high-level system architecture and detailed engineering and enjoy working collaboratively with engineers from different disciplines.

You will be:

  • Technically strong: able to make sound engineering decisions and explain the reasoning behind them.

  • Practical: interested not only in whether a design works on paper, but whether it can be built, tested, manufactured and supported.

  • Curious: keen to understand new technologies and find better ways of solving problems.

  • Collaborative: comfortable working across electrical, mechanical, systems, controls, production and test teams.

  • Proactive: willing to take ownership rather than wait for somebody else to define every detail.

  • Commercially aware: able to balance performance and technical excellence with cost, manufacturability and customer requirements.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Strong experience in electrical design and development of 400V three-phase AC systems, including motor drives, inverters or other power electronics.

  • Experience designing electrical panels and associated control circuits incorporating sensors, ECUs and/or PLCs.

  • Good understanding of electrical drawings, schematics, specifications and engineering documentation.

  • Experience taking electrical designs from concept through detailed design, build and test.

  • Understanding of relevant electrical standards and engineering design practices.

  • Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent relevant qualifications and experience.

  • Experience with battery systems and high-voltage DC systems up to approximately 1000VDC.

  • Experience with EPLAN or similar electrical schematic design software.

  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as CAN bus and Modbus.

  • Experience working with BMS systems.

  • Experience with EMC design and product certification.

  • Experience working within a product-development and manufacturing environment.

  • Experience leading technical design reviews or mentoring other engineers.

  • Previous technical or functional leadership experience.

Not sure you meet every requirement?

We know that great engineers don't always tick every box. If this role interests you and you believe your experience could transfer well, we encourage you to apply.

We are interested in your engineering ability, curiosity and potential, as well as the technologies you have worked with previously.

What You Will Get

  • A role with genuine influence over the electrical architecture of our products.

  • The opportunity to work across the complete development lifecycle, from concept to production.

  • The potential to grow into technical, functional or team leadership.

  • Competitive salary.

  • Pension contribution of 8% of salary.

  • Private healthcare, including dental and optical cover.

  • 25 days' holiday, plus bank holidays.

  • On-site parking.

  • Flexibility and family-friendly policies.

  • The opportunity to do something practical about rising temperatures.

About Dumarey Green Power

At Dumarey Green Power, we believe that wasting energy is simply unacceptable.

We develop innovative energy storage solutions that capture, store and redeploy energy when it is needed most. By smoothing peaks in power demand, our technologies enable primary power sources and grid connections to operate closer to average rather than peak load. This helps our customers to reduce fuel consumption, emissions and total operating cost.

Our product portfolio combines high-power flywheel energy storage originally developed for Formula One with innovative battery energy storage solutions. Our technologies are proven in demanding real-world applications, including construction, temporary and distributed power and industrial environments. We work with small as well as very large organisations, offering a dynamic and interesting work environment.

Dumarey Green Power combines the agility and influence of a growth business with the capability and backing of a €750m, 2,500-person international, family-owned industrial group with operations across Europe, the US and Asia.

Our headquarters are located at the iconic Silverstone Circuit in the United Kingdom, with additional presence in Duiven, Netherlands.
