ROLE OBJECTIVE:
Hardline Engineering is currently looking for a Protection & Control Senior Engineer to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Director, Engineering the P&C Senior Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining advanced protection and control systems for substation and transmission systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design and Engineering:

Develop protection and control system designs for substations and transmission systems, including relay settings, control logic, and interface wiring.

Create and review detailed engineering deliverables such as single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, wiring schematics, panel layouts, and communication network architecture.

Design SCADA communication related drawings

Conduct advanced system studies, including fault current analysis, protection coordination, load flow, transient stability, and arc flash analysis, using industry-standard tools.

Specify, configure, and program protection and control equipment, including protective relays, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), intelligent electronic devices (IEDs), and communication systems.

Develop system integration plans to ensure seamless operation of SCADA, RTU, and communication networks with protection systems.

Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to optimize designs for constructability, cost-efficiency, and operational reliability.

Maintain comprehensive documentation of designs, including calculations, assumptions, and methodologies, ensuring traceability and adherence to quality standards.

Provide technical input during design reviews, hazard and operability studies (HAZOPs), and risk assessments to enhance system safety and reliability.
Project Management:

Lead the execution of protection and control projects, ensuring timely delivery within budget and quality requirements.

Prepare and review project documentation, including technical specifications, test procedures, and as-built drawings.

Coordinate with clients, contractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure seamless project execution.
Testing and Commissioning:

Oversee the testing and commissioning of protection and control systems, ensuring compliance with design specifications and industry standards.

Develop and implement commissioning plans and procedures.

Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during construction and commissioning phases.
Compliance and Standards:

Ensure all designs and implementations comply with applicable industry standards, such as IEEE, IEC, CSA, and utility-specific requirements.

Integrate cybersecurity measures into automation and SCADA designs to meet NERC-CIP and other relevant standards.
Leadership and Mentorship:

Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and project teams.

Promote a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing within the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Degree in Electrical Engineering from a program accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board.

Registered with APEGA as a Professional Engineer or equivalent Canadian professional agency required.

5+ years of experience and knowledge of protection and control systems within substations and transmission systems.

Ability to manage and deliver Engineering deliverables as per project schedule and within budget

Ability to work closely with Drafters, Engineers and Leads to meet with project timelines for engineering deliverables

Ability to manage multiple assignments with tight timelines.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $100,000.00-$160,000.00 per year
