Senior Embedded Software Engineer โ€“ Connected Products

Bloomington, Minnesota | Onsite | Direct Hire

MaxIT Consulting โ€“ Max Corporate Group is seeking an experienced Senior Embedded Software Engineer โ€“ Connected Products for a U.S.-based manufacturing organization developing professional tools, equipment, and connected products for the HVAC/R market.

This is a senior technical role combining embedded firmware development, desktop and mobile application engineering, new-product development, testing, production support, and engineering leadership.

The selected engineer will help transform early product concepts into production-ready solutions while providing technical direction to other engineers and supporting products throughout their complete software lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the software and technical development of connected tools, equipment, and related products.

  • Provide technical leadership on complex engineering projects from concept through production and post-launch support.

  • Own project-level technical goals involving multiple engineers and break ambiguous initiatives into clear milestones and deliverables.

  • Lead and mentor engineers while helping resolve complex technical and product-development challenges.

  • Translate product concepts and requirements into production-ready software solutions and technical documentation.

  • Develop and maintain embedded firmware and associated desktop and mobile applications.

  • Support application development and testing for both Android and iOS environments.

  • Define software and product specifications for new-product initiatives.

  • Develop test plans and perform validation and software testing throughout the development lifecycle.

  • Support new-product development activities, design reviews, stage-gate processes, and production launches.

  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and production-line support for released products.

  • Maintain and update released production documentation using established engineering change processes.

  • Evaluate project progress, technical results, risks, and product readiness.

  • Collaborate with engineering, product-development, manufacturing, quality, and other cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Support the selection, onboarding, coaching, performance management, and development of a small number of direct-report engineers.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field.

  • Approximately 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in embedded firmware and mobile and/or desktop application development and testing.

  • Strong understanding of embedded systems and production-oriented software development.

  • Experience working through the full software product lifecycle, from initial concept and requirements through development, testing, launch, maintenance, and post-launch support.

  • Experience participating in or leading new-product development initiatives.

  • Strong experience with UWP and Microsoft-based software development technologies.

  • Professional development experience with Visual C++ and C#.

  • Experience with VB.NET and ASP.NET.

  • Ability to develop, test, or support applications for Android and iOS platforms.

  • Experience designing test plans and performing software and system validation.

  • Understanding of lean principles and structured product-development processes.

  • Ability to translate technical concepts into clear presentations and recommendations for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple technical priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision while taking ownership of complex technical initiatives.

  • Strong interpersonal, mentoring, and technical leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing connected products using Bluetooth or Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).

  • Experience with Ethernet and TCP/IP communications.

  • Experience with JIRA or comparable engineering workflow and issue-tracking platforms.

  • Infor ERP experience.

  • SolidWorks experience.

  • Experience with DBWorks, Enterprise PDM, or comparable product-data-management environments.

  • EPA 608 Certification.

  • Experience developing software for industrial, IoT, instrumentation, electronic, HVAC/R, or other connected physical products.

Technical Leadership

This position is intended for a senior engineer who remains technically hands-on while also providing leadership to other members of the engineering organization.

Responsibilities may include mentoring engineers, leading technical decisions, supporting interviews and candidate selection, onboarding team members, reviewing performance, and supervising up to two direct reports.

Work Schedule

This is an onsite position based in Bloomington, Minnesota.

The standard schedule is a four-day work week, Monday through Thursday, with approximately 10 working hours per day. Working hours are generally scheduled within the 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM timeframe.

Additional hours may occasionally be required during periods of increased business or product-development activity.

Visa sponsorship is not available for this position now or in the future.

Relocation assistance is not available. Candidates who are not currently located within commuting distance of Bloomington should have a realistic and defined relocation plan.
