Job description

We’re looking for a Senior Financial Accountant

Based in Richmond and reporting to the US Financial Controller, the Senior Financial Accountant will be an integral part of the Finance Team and help achieve departmental objectives in a dynamic and deadline-driven environment within the broader Hamilton Insurance Group.

You’ll have leadership responsibility for aspects of our accounting, reporting and systems processes.

What you will help us do

  • Oversee monthly and quarterly close procedures for technical insurance accounts and high judgment accounting areas

  • Ensure management information and financial reporting are complete, accurate and timely

  • Review and preparation of monthly reconciliations for insurance balance sheet accounts

  • Provide analytical reviews of financial metrics

  • Assist with the preparation of US insurance statutory filings

  • Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with US GAAP

  • Work across teams to project manage systems implementations, upgrades and automation initiatives focusing on the integrity of the financial data, processes and controls

  • Maintain accounting policies & procedures and ensure financial statements and underwriting-related transactions are prepared in accordance with US GAAP and US Statutory Accounting Principles

  • Develop, implement and maintain process documentation and controls over financial reporting and compliance

  • Maintain strong stakeholder relationships and drive the execution of team deliverables

  • Liaise with internal and external auditors

What you require for the role

  • Qualified CPA or equivalent

  • Demonstrable post-qualification experience gained in a similar role within a insurance company or within practice auditing insurance companies

  • In-depth knowledge of US GAAP

  • Good knowledge of relevant insurance accounting treatment

  • Advanced MS Excel skills and the ability to navigate complex spreadsheets

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Proven ability to project manage system implementations and improvements and to develop automation processes

  • Commitment to collaboration, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior personnel within the group

  • Ability to prioritize issues, identify areas of difficulty and communicate clearly with the Financial Controller / CFO
