About the Role

This is a senior, hands-on ownership role. You’ll ship our mobile app from scratch and provide technical support and guidance as needed to our web team of 2–3 Laravel developers, who run our production web platform today.

You’ll report to the CPTO, a cofounder who owns product direction, technology strategy, and the major architecture bets. Within that strategy, execution is yours: architecture proposals, day-to-day technical decisions, code quality, and delivery. Expect real debate, real autonomy in your lane, and ownership that expands as the company grows, with an explicit path to a lead position.

What success looks like in year one: the mobile app live on the App Store and Google Play, scaling significantly, engineering standards embedded across the full tech team, and an architecture ready for B2C scale.

What You’ll Do

• Build the mobile app. Own full-stack Flutter development end to end: UI, state management, APIs, backend integration, and releases to the App Store and Google Play.

• Shape the architecture. Propose, document, and implement the system architecture across mobile, web, and backend, with the CPTO as final arbiter on the major bets.

• Develop AI-first. Use AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot or similar) as a daily multiplier for building, testing, and reviewing, and raise the whole team’s AI-assisted practice.

• Support the web team. Set engineering standards for our web developers through code review, architectural guidance, and delivery planning.

• Champion security. Bake security and privacy into design: secure auth, encryption at rest and in transit, secure API design, secrets management, and careful handling of user data.

• Communicate clearly. Keep decisions and APIs documented, translate trade-offs into plain language for non-technical stakeholders, and give honest estimates with early warnings.

What We’re Looking For

• 6+ years of software engineering experience, including production mobile apps shipped end to end (Flutter strongly preferred; strong cross-platform experience considered). What you’ve shipped matters more to us than the year count.

• Full-stack depth: mobile clients, REST/GraphQL APIs, backend services, databases, and CI/CD.

• Enough Laravel/PHP to review code and guide our web architecture, or the backend depth to get there fast. Deep PHP expertise is not the bar.

• A demonstrated AI-forward development practice: you genuinely co-develop with AI tools and can show how it changes your speed and quality.

• Experience designing and documenting architecture for non-trivial products.

• A practical security mindset: OWASP fundamentals, secure data storage, and auth best practices.

• Excellent written and verbal communication, with comfort in a high-communication early-stage environment.

• Experience mentoring engineers either formally, or as the de facto senior others turned to.

• You ship fast without shipping shortcuts. Clean code, tests where they matter, architecture built to scale; AI-accelerated, never AI-sloppy.

• You communicate early and often. Risks, blockers, and mistakes get flagged when they’re cheap to fix. You never go quiet when stuck.

• You disagree openly and respectfully, then commit fully. You debate decisions on the merits and back them completely once made.

• You’re in it for the journey. You want to join early, take real ownership, and build something over years; with an equity stake, part of it is yours.

Nice to Have

• Scale-up experience: you’ve seen firsthand what breaks as a startup grows.

• Consumer app experience at real scale (analytics, A/B testing, performance tuning, store optimization).

• Already UAE-based with residency/visa history; familiarity with UAE/GCC data protection (e.g., UAE PDPL).
