Senior Healthcare Data Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Healthcare Data Engineer to architect and manage data pipelines for a large-scale state public health cloud platform. This role owns the backend data ingestion, standardizing complex clinical feeds, and preparing clean, relational datasets for reporting and visualization.

Core Responsibilities

• Data Pipelines (ETL/ELT):

  Build, deploy, and maintain automated ingestion workflows to pull public health data from various state, federal, and local sources into an MS SQL/Azure environment.

• Clinical Data Parsing:

  Process, map, and standardize complex healthcare exchange formats (HL7, FHIR, proprietary flat files) into clean relational database tables.

• Vocabulary Mapping:

  Translate proprietary hospital codes and clinical vocabularies into standardized national medical codes (LOINC, SNOMED, ICD-10).

• Data Governance & Metadata:

  Implement data governance standards, apply statistical safeguards (e.g., small cell suppression), and maintain comprehensive data dictionaries.

• Analytics & Visualization:

  Develop and maintain interactive public health reporting dashboards using Power BI, Tableau, or ESRI based on curated datasets.

Required Qualifications

• Must physically reside within the Continental United States (no exceptions or offshore resources).

• 5+ years of data engineering experience using advanced SQL and Python for ETL/ELT.

• Deep, hands-on experience parsing and structuring healthcare data payloads (HL7, FHIR) and working with nested clinical data.

• Proven experience building end-to-end business intelligence dashboards in Power BI or Tableau.

• Ability to troubleshoot broken data feeds, manage exception handling autonomously, and maintain pipeline stability.

Communication Requirement:

• Exceptional verbal and written English communication skills, with extensive experience presenting technical concepts directly to state and executive stakeholders.

• Ability to conduct live, client-facing meetings and technical discovery sessions independently.

Logistical Restrictions:

• Direct W-2 or 1099 independent contractors only. Absolutely no third-party staffing agencies, recruiters, or Corp-to-Corp (C2C).

• No visa sponsorship or transfer available now or in the future.

Target Hourly Rate:

$70 to $85 per hour, depending on experience.
