Role Description

As a Senior Java/Kotlin Software Engineer at Yoink, you will design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and microservices for client projects. You will work closely with other engineers, architects, and stakeholders to translate business needs into robust technical solutions, primarily within the Java ecosystem and related frameworks. Daily tasks include writing clean, testable code, conducting code reviews, improving system performance, and contributing to technical design and architectural decisions. You will also mentor less experienced engineers, share knowledge within the team, and participate in internal and external tech communities. This is a full-time, hybrid role based in Utrecht, with a balance of on-site collaboration and the flexibility to work from home part of the week.

Qualifications

  • Strong skills in Software Development and Programming, with a focus on backend systems

  • Hands-on experience with Java and familiarity or interest in Kotlin

  • Proficiency in designing and implementing Microservices architectures

  • Practical experience with Spring Framework and related tools in the Java ecosystem

  • Solid understanding of APIs, RESTful services, and integration patterns

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and version control (e.g., Git)

  • Knowledge of containerization and cloud platforms (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, GCP, or Azure) is beneficial

  • Comfort working in a consultancy environment, collaborating directly with clients and cross-functional teams

  • Ability to communicate clearly, share knowledge, and mentor peers in a supportive, inclusive way

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

  • Interest in sustainability, open source contribution, and continuous professional development
