About Qcloud
Qcloud is a highly technical specialist consultancy founded in 2015, delivering
mechanical and electrical engineering design services for mission-critical facilities,
including data centres, telecom facilities, and critical infrastructure across the Middle
East.
Role Purpose
This role is for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with strong technical design capability in
data-centre mechanical systems. The position involves leading and delivering detailed
mechanical design packages from concept and Basis of Design through to IFC
documentation, coordinating closely with electrical, structural, architectural, BIM and
project-management teams.
The role requires independent technical judgement, strong ownership of design quality,
and the ability to manage multiple design deliverables within fast-paced project
environments.
Key Responsibilities
● Lead mechanical design development for data-centre projects from concept,
Basis of Design and detailed design through to IFC and construction-stage
technical support.
● Develop and review HVAC and other mechanical systems serving data halls,
technical rooms, offices and ancillary spaces.
● Design and coordinate chilled-water systems, including chillers, pumps, cooling
towers or dry coolers, CRAH/CRAC units, Fan Wall Units, plate heat exchangers,
pressurisation units, expansion vessels, water treatment and associated
primary/secondary distribution networks.
● Develop liquid-cooling infrastructure, including CDUs, secondary cooling loops,
pipework distribution and equipment interfaces.
● Carry out or review cooling-load calculations, equipment selections, hydraulic
calculations, pipe sizing, pump-head calculations and pressure-drop
assessments.
● Undertake psychrometric and ventilation calculations, including fresh-air,
pressurisation and humidity-control requirements.
● Apply resilience, redundancy, maintainability and operational-continuity
principles appropriate to mission-critical facilities.
● Prepare and review drawings, schematics, equipment schedules, calculations,
technical reports, specifications and Basis of Design documents.
● Coordinate mechanical designs with electrical, architectural, structural,
fire/life-safety, public-health, controls and BIM disciplines.
● Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews, technical workshops,
value-engineering exercises and client/vendor meetings.
● Review vendor submittals and technical proposals to verify compliance with
project requirements and design intent.
● Support mechanical interfaces with fire protection, drainage, water-treatment
and building-management/control systems.
● Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, project requirements and
local authority regulations.
● Contribute to design standardisation, lessons learned, quality reviews and
continuous improvement of Qcloud’s design deliverables.
Qualifications and Experience
● Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
● Approximately 6–10 years’ mechanical-design experience, with proven
data-centre or mission-critical project exposure.
● Strong understanding of ASHRAE, CIBSE, TIA-942, Uptime Institute principles,
NFPA, SMACNA and applicable local regulations.
● Experience with AutoCAD and HVAC design/calculation software such as HAP
or IES.
● BIM/Revit experience is preferred, but not mandatory.
● Able to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple
technical deliverables.
● Strong communication, coordination and technical-report-writing skills
