Job description

Company Description

Iridium Project Delivery provides project delivery and engineering services for mine, port, and rail infrastructure clients in the resources and bulk commodities sectors. The company supports both capital and sustaining projects, operating as a turn-key delivery partner or contributing to specific phases as needed. Iridium assembles high-performing teams to deliver infrastructure projects from initial planning through asset commissioning and ongoing sustaining. Team members work in a dynamic environment focused on practical solutions, technical excellence, and successful project outcomes for complex industrial assets.

Role Description

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer role is a full-time, on-site position based in the Greater Perth Area. This role is responsible for leading mechanical design activities for mining, port, and rail infrastructure projects, including developing concepts, performing detailed design, and preparing technical documentation and drawings. The engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, review and validate design calculations, ensure compliance with relevant standards, and participate in design reviews and risk assessments. Day-to-day tasks include using CAD tools to model equipment and systems, coordinating with project managers and site teams, supporting procurement and fabrication with clear specifications, and providing technical input during installation, commissioning, and asset sustaining phases. The position also involves mentoring junior engineers and contributing to continuous improvement of design processes and engineering practices.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Machine Design for heavy industrial or mining equipment and related systems.

  • Proficiency in Product Design, with the ability to translate project requirements into robust mechanical solutions.

  • Advanced skills in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools for 3D modeling, drafting, and design documentation.

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.

  • Demonstrated experience in infrastructure projects within mining, port, rail, or similar heavy industry environments.

  • Knowledge of relevant Australian and international engineering codes, standards, and safety regulations.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with attention to detail and design quality.

  • Ability to work effectively on-site in multidisciplinary teams and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Experience leading projects or engineering workstreams and mentoring junior team members.
