Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly qualified Senior Mechanical Engineer – HVAC with 15+ years of experience in the design, installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC and mechanical systems. The ideal candidate must hold valid UPDA/MMUP and QCDD certifications and preferably be classified as an A Grade or B Grade Mechanical Engineer.

The candidate will be responsible for managing HVAC projects, ensuring compliance with Qatar Civil Defence requirements, applicable international standards, project specifications, and local authority regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise HVAC and mechanical engineering activities for building and MEP projects.

• Review and approve HVAC design drawings, shop drawings, calculations, material submittals, and technical documentation.

• Manage the installation, testing, commissioning, and handover of HVAC systems.

• Ensure HVAC works comply with QCDD, UPDA/MMUP, Kahramaa, Ashghal, project specifications, and applicable international standards.

• Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, consultants, contractors, and other project stakeholders.

• Review HVAC load calculations, equipment selections, ductwork layouts, chilled-water piping, ventilation systems, and related mechanical systems.

• Supervise site activities and ensure work is executed according to approved drawings and specifications.

• Monitor project progress, quality, safety, and compliance with approved schedules.

• Attend technical meetings and coordinate with consultants, clients, and authorities.

• Inspect HVAC installations and ensure proper testing and commissioning procedures are followed.

• Identify technical issues and provide practical engineering solutions.

• Review method statements, inspection and test plans (ITPs), risk assessments, and commissioning procedures.

• Ensure proper documentation and preparation of as-built drawings and O&M manuals.

• Support authority inspections, approvals, and project handover.

• Mentor and supervise junior engineers and technical staff.

Required Qualifications & Certifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university.

• 15+ years of relevant mechanical/HVAC experience.

• Valid UPDA/MMUP Mechanical Engineer certification.

• QCDD certification/approval is mandatory or highly preferred, depending on project requirements.

• A Grade or B Grade Mechanical Engineer classification is preferred/required.

• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and MEP building services.

• Strong knowledge of Qatar construction practices and authority requirements.

• Excellent knowledge of relevant international HVAC and mechanical standards, including ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, and relevant BS/EN standards.

• Previous experience in Qatar/GCC projects is highly desirable.

• Central chilled-water HVAC systems

• Chillers and cooling towers

• AHUs, FCUs, FAHUs and ventilation systems

• Ductwork design and installation

• Chilled-water and condenser-water piping

• Pumps and pressurization systems

• Smoke extraction and ventilation systems

• Staircase and car-park ventilation

• Fire and smoke control systems

• BMS integration and HVAC controls

• Testing, Adjusting and Balancing (TAB)

• HVAC testing and commissioning

• Energy-efficient HVAC systems

• Coordination of HVAC services with other MEP disciplines

Key Skills

• Strong leadership and project management skills

• Excellent knowledge of HVAC design and site execution

• Ability to review engineering drawings and technical submittals

• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities

• Good knowledge of QCDD and Qatar authority requirements

• Excellent communication and coordination skills

• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities

• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, HAP or other relevant engineering software is an advantage
