JOB OVERVIEW
The Target Hiring Range for this position is: $130,000 - $145,000
The Office of the Sergeant at Arms (SAA) of the United States Senate is looking for a skilled and motivated Senior ServiceNow Engineer. This role involves designing, improving, and supporting key applications on the ServiceNow platform. It is perfect for a ServiceNow specialist with strong expertise in CMDB, ITSM, EAM, and ITOM, which are vital to the Senate’s digital infrastructure. You’ll collaborate directly with customers and end users to understand their business needs, improve processes, and deliver secure, high-quality solutions that support mission-critical operations. This is a unique opportunity to apply your ServiceNow expertise in a highly meaningful public service environment.
This role is located in Washington, D.C., with eligibility for hybrid work. You must be on site at least six times per month and be prepared to respond quickly to emergencies, work outside normal hours, or travel to other locations to support the Senate.
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Responsibilities
The Administrative Systems team depends on the Senior Platform Engineer to support and enhance various custom and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) applications. This involves actively participating in the improvement and maintenance of multiple systems.
Responsibilities For This Position Include

ServiceNow Configuration and Maintenance:
-
Configure out-of-the-box functionality to meet customer requirements.
-
Create and maintain forms, reports, views, workflows, groups, roles, dashboards, and scheduled reports.
-
Assist with ServiceNow upgrades and provide best-practice recommendations.
-
Software Development and Debugging:
-
Participate in the entire software development life cycle, debugging and correcting defects.
-
Implement and support CMDB, ITSM, ITAM, Knowledge Management, KPI reporting, dashboards, and permissions models—key components of asset and service operations.
-
Ensure data quality and process reliability across asset lifecycles and service delivery workflows.
-
Ensure thorough quality control of all software development and modifications.
-
Employ Agile Scrum methodologies in development activities.
-
Customer Interaction and Support:
-
Collaborate with customers to refine requirements, develop user stories, and implement solutions.
-
Provide technical support for resolving system problems encountered in ServiceNow.
-
Interact with customers to address technical issues and resolve conflicts.

Documentation and Process Improvement:
-
Develop and maintain system documentation, including user guides, procedures, and communication of enhancements and bugs.

Assist in the design, creation, and cataloging of business process flows.

Work with department representatives to identify and anticipate process improvement opportunities.

Identify opportunities to streamline asset management and service management processes.

System Installation and Coordination:

Coordinate software installations, ensuring all equipment functions correctly and meets operational standards.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Collaborate with various departments to develop solutions to improve processes and address other technical needs.

Required Education

Strong experience configuring workflows, forms, access controls, notifications, and data models.

Knowledge of building and managing integrations.

Familiarity with ETL tools, batch processing, SQL, and data transformations.

Understanding of access control (RBAC, ABAC, PBAC), SSO, SAML, and platform-level security configurations.

Knowledge of distributed systems, middleware, service orchestration, and scalability principles.

Experience with DevOps practices, source control, automated testing, and deployment pipelines.

Experience documenting existing and newly developed platform solutions to support both technical implementation and ongoing troubleshooting, ensuring clarity for developers, administrators, and support teams.

Agile/Scrum experience: Involved in Agile and Scrum methodologies, particularly in the software development life cycle (SDLC).

Working Conditions

This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during a lapse in appropriations, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.

The U.S. Senate network cannot be taken offline for maintenance during the workday or while the Senate is in session. As such, maintenance windows may only occur at night, on weekends, and occasionally on holidays. Employees who perform systems upgrades, maintenance, wiring, backups, or support our alternate data centers will have schedules that include working nights, weekends, and holidays.
