melyn is a platform built for First Nations communities across Canada. We help Nations manage housing, infrastructure, governance, and economic development through one integrated system, so they can secure funding, lead projects, and drive sustainable growth. We partner with new Nations every week.

We build everything in alignment with OCAP (Ownership, Control, Access, Possession), the First Nations principles that govern how Indigenous data is collected, stored, used, and protected. OCAP is not a checkbox here. It shapes where data lives and who can access it.

About the role

You will be our first dedicated QA hire and you will own quality across

the whole product: the web platform, the staff mobile app, and the

citizen facing app.

Today, developers test their own work and we do manual checks before release. That does not scale. You will replace it with something real: a test strategy, a regression suite, automation that runs in CI, and a release signoff the team trusts.

What you will do

- Own the QA function: strategy, process, tooling, and release signoff

- Write and maintain test plans, test cases, and regression suites for

web and mobile

- Run functional, regression, integration, cross browser, and cross

device testing

- Test REST APIs, including auth, permissions, and error handling

- Build and grow the automation suite, and keep it running in CI

- Verify builds on real Android and iOS devices before release

- Log clear, reproducible bugs, follow them to closure, and report

quality status to leadership

- Set the quality bar and hold the line when something is not ready to ship

Our stack

Next.js on web, React Native on mobile, JavaScript and TypeScript across the board, Node.js and Python on the backend, REST APIs, PostgreSQL, all running on AWS.

What we are looking for

- 4+ years in QA, strong in both manual and automation testing

- Deep fundamentals: test strategy, test case design, regression

planning, defect lifecycle, risk based testing

- Hands on automation you built yourself, not just maintained: a

framework you set up and grew, using JavaScript or TypeScript

(Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or similar)

- Solid API testing: auth flows, permissions, edge cases, error

handling, testing without a UI

- Mobile app testing on real Android and iOS devices, not just

emulators

- Comfortable with SQL for verifying data end to end

- Git and CI pipelines, with automation running on every build

- Proven ownership: you have been the person accountable for whether a release ships, and you have said no when it should not

Nice to have

- Mobile automation with Appium, Maestro, or Detox

- Running automation in a CI pipeline (GitHub Actions or similar)

- Testing React Native apps, including offline sync and conflict

resolution scenarios

- Performance testing (JMeter, k6) or basic security testing awareness

- Experience as the first or only QA in a team

- Exposure to AI or LLM based features and how to test non

deterministic output

- Experience with accessibility testing
