About the Role

We are seeking a senior Salesforce developer to support a U.S. Department of the Navy customer migrating a legacy Student Information System to Salesforce Education Cloud. You will be the sole technical resource on the engagement and will be named as Key Personnel on the contract — meaning you will own the platform end to end, working directly with government stakeholders, system administrators, and end users.

This role suits someone who is equally comfortable writing Apex and sitting in a requirements session with a registrar. It is hands-on development, not oversight.

A word on work location, because we would rather be direct than have you find out later: the customer designates Monterey as the primary place of performance and furnishes a workstation onsite. Some remote work may be approved, but the decision belongs to the government and can be revisited at any point during the engagement. Please apply only if a regular onsite presence in Monterey is workable for you.

What You Will Do

•     Design, configure, and maintain Salesforce objects, fields, flows, validation rules, approval processes, reports, dashboards, and security models.

•     Build and maintain custom Apex classes and triggers, Lightning Web Components, and Visualforce pages supporting student records, degree programs, curricula, admissions, enrollment, and graduation processing.

•     Manage release pipelines using Salesforce DX, Git, and automated CI/CD tooling, including sandbox environment strategy.

•     Enforce code quality through static analysis (e.g., PMD), maintain a minimum of 85% Apex test coverage, and keep the codebase free of critical security vulnerabilities such as SOQL injection.

•     Implement event-driven patterns using Platform Events and Change Data Capture.

•     Run requirements-gathering sessions with functional stakeholders; document current- and future-state processes; write user stories, use cases, and acceptance criteria.

•     Design and support REST and SOAP integrations with external systems, and troubleshoot integration and data synchronization failures.

•     Support data migration, cleansing, transformation, and validation from the legacy system into Salesforce.

•     Develop and execute unit, integration, system, and user acceptance testing; document test plans, scripts, results, and defect remediation.

•     Produce and maintain technical design documentation, integration specifications, and end-user training materials on a defined delivery schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field emphasizing software design and development. Candidates without a qualifying degree must have eight additional years of enterprise software development experience beyond the minimum below — a total of 16 years.

Accessibility Requirements

This role carries specific accessibility obligations. You should have demonstrated experience with:

•     Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act — designing and testing applications for compliance.

•     Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA implementation.

•     Accessibility testing tools and remediation of identified issues.

•     Designing accessible forms, workflows, reports, and user interfaces.

•     Conducting usability reviews and accessibility validation testing.

Security and Eligibility

These are firm requirements set by the customer, not preferences:

•     U.S. citizenship.

•     Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Common Access Card.

•     Ability to pass a Tier 3 (or equivalent) background investigation, including National Agency Check, FBI fingerprint check, law enforcement checks, and credit check. A current, favorably adjudicated investigation is a significant advantage and may affect your available start date.

•     Completion of Level I Antiterrorism Awareness training prior to facility access, plus OPSEC, Cyber Awareness, and Controlled Unclassified Information training after onboarding.

Note on timing: onboarding paperwork (OF-306, fingerprinting, e-QIP, CAC issuance) must be completed before the performance start date and is unpaid. Candidates who already hold a current investigation and CAC will be prioritized.

Preferred

•     Direct experience with student information systems, academic records, or higher-education administrative systems.

•     Prior work on DoD or federal civilian programs.

•     Salesforce Platform Developer I, Data Architect, or Advanced Administrator credentials in addition to those required above.

•     Currently located on the Monterey Peninsula, in the greater Bay Area, or able to relocate. Local candidates carry a meaningful advantage given the onsite posture.
