Senior Software Developer – Engineering Applications

Overview**

Seeking a Senior Software Developer to support the development, maintenance, modernization, and deployment of engineering software applications. The role will work across legacy Fortran engineering programs and Windows-based .NET applications, including VB.NET WinForms and C# WPF applications. The position will also support software configuration, documentation, version control, web hosting, and cloud migration activities.

The ideal candidate will have strong software development and maintenance experience, with the ability to work in a mixed technology environment that includes legacy engineering applications and modern Microsoft development platforms. Experience supporting software used for bridge design or bridge load rating is highly desirable. Development activities will be performed under the direction and oversight of experienced bridge design and load rating engineers.

Duties

• Develop, maintain, enhance, and troubleshoot engineering software applications.

• Support revisions and enhancements to Fortran-based engineering programs in response to engineering and software revision requests.

• Modify and maintain VB.NET WinForms desktop applications, including EngMgr and EngAsst.

• Support modernization efforts for engineering applications using C# and WPF.

• Develop and maintain application components using .NET, C#, Visual Basic, XML, and HTML.

• Track all software revisions and changes using Git version control.

• Perform software maintenance, debugging, testing, and troubleshooting to ensure applications operate as expected.

• Support software configuration and release activities for engineering applications.

• Maintain and update application documentation, including User Manuals, System Manuals, and configuration files.

• Update Microsoft Word documentation and publish finalized user documentation as Adobe PDF release documents.

• Support installation and deployment activities using InstallShield.

• Support application hosting environments running on Windows Server and Microsoft IIS.

• Assist with cloud hosting initiatives, including application migration and site migration activities.

• Use Microsoft Visual Studio and other development and productivity tools to perform software development and maintenance activities.

• Collaborate with bridge design and bridge load rating engineers to understand requirements and implement software revisions.

• Participate in software releases, enhancements, testing, and ongoing application maintenance.

• Maintain technical documentation and development artifacts in accordance with established procedures.

Required Skills

• 5+ years of professional experience in software development and maintenance.

• Strong software development experience with .NET technologies.

• Experience with C# and/or Visual Basic/VB.NET.

• Experience developing or maintaining Windows desktop applications, particularly WinForms or WPF.

• Experience with Fortran or other legacy engineering programming environments.

• Experience with XML and HTML.

• Experience using Git for source control and version management.

• Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio.

• Experience supporting applications hosted in a Windows Server environment.

• Experience with Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS).

• Experience with software installation, deployment, or packaging tools such as InstallShield.

• Ability to troubleshoot, modify, test, and maintain existing software applications.

• Strong documentation skills and ability to maintain technical and user-facing documentation.

• Ability to work effectively with technical and engineering personnel to translate requirements into software changes.
