Senior Software Engineer, Backend | Audit Product Team
Jobgether
Job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Backend | Audit Product Team based in United States.
This senior backend engineering role offers the opportunity to shape scalable software systems that support high-stakes healthcare payment and audit workflows. Youâll set technical direction, design reliable distributed systems, and build customer-facing applications that operate at significant scale. The role combines deep backend engineering with strong product ownership, requiring you to connect technical decisions to real user and business outcomes. Youâll work closely with engineering, product, machine learning, data science, and customer-facing teams to solve complex problems. AI-assisted and agentic engineering practices are an important part of the development environment, with human oversight and a strong focus on code quality. As a technical multiplier, youâll mentor engineers, influence architecture, and help introduce modern tools and engineering practices across the team.
Accountabilities:
-
Set technical direction for backend development, designing and implementing scalable, reliable, and secure web application systems.
-
Develop production-grade backend services while establishing engineering standards, mentoring teammates, and raising overall programming maturity.
-
Serve as the backend voice in cross-team planning and help connect engineering, product, machine learning, data science, and other functions during execution.
-
Contribute to complex customer-facing product development, ensuring applications are extensible, scalable, secure, and designed around real user needs.
-
Architect and build systems that apply machine learning techniques to large datasets and simplify labor-intensive healthcare processes through effective technology and user experiences.
-
Design distributed systems capable of delivering high performance, availability, and reliability across cloud environments.
-
Balance new customer-facing capabilities with technical debt reduction and long-term software sustainability.
-
Develop technical design documents that translate ambiguous product requirements into concrete, understandable backend architectures.
-
Deepen understanding of healthcare claims and payment workflows and apply that domain knowledge to technical and product decisions.
-
Introduce agentic engineering practices into everyday development and help the wider team adopt AI-assisted workflows effectively and responsibly.
-
Review complex code, maintain high standards for code quality, and identify opportunities to improve architecture, maintainability, and performance.
-
Work directly with cross-functional partners and contribute to product direction through strong technical judgment and customer-focused thinking.
Requirements:
-
8+ years of professional experience in backend software engineering, with additional full-stack experience highly valued.
-
Proven experience designing and shipping customer-facing web applications and features used by external customers.
-
Strong professional experience with Java or Scala; Rust experience is highly desirable.
-
Demonstrated ability to design, build, and operate distributed systems running reliably on cloud infrastructure at scale, including high-throughput and high-availability environments.
-
Ability to create clear Technical Design Documents that can be trusted by senior engineering peers and understood by product stakeholders.
-
Strong product and user-oriented mindset, with the ability to connect technical decisions to customer outcomes rather than focusing solely on implementation.
-
Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills and experience partnering with engineers, senior product managers, ML/data science teams, and leadership.
-
Pragmatic problem-solving approach combined with strong systems thinking and a focus on identifying root causes.
-
Hands-on experience with agentic engineering tools and AI-assisted development workflows in production environments.
-
Strong ability to understand complex codebases, take ownership of code quality, and improve existing systems.
-
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills suited to high-growth environments where technical decisions carry significant impact.
-
Comfort navigating complexity and ambiguity, with the curiosity and initiative to define effective paths forward.
-
Technical leadership experience with Rust best practices, including idioms, safety, and performance, is a plus.
-
Bachelorâs or Masterâs degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
Benefits:
-
Remote work from anywhere in the United States.
-
Competitive salary with a stated pay range of approximately $200,000â$230,000 USD.
-
Meaningful equity as part of the total compensation package.
-
Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
-
FSA/HSA options.
-
401(k) with company match.
-
Tuition reimbursement.
-
Unlimited paid time off.
-
Additional health and wellness benefits and perks.
-
Flexible, trust-based work environment designed to empower employees to do their best work.
-
Opportunity to work on technology influencing healthcare decisions and systems impacting millions of lives.
-
Opportunity to contribute to modern AI-driven and agentic engineering practices while helping shape technical standards across a growing team.
