Job description

About Float

Float Health is building the marketplace for specialty pharmacy. Our mission is to make healthcare safer, easier, and more efficient by moving all care that doesn't need a hospital to the home.

Float connects nurses with patients so they can get treatments for their chronic conditions in the home rather than going into the overcrowded hospital. The model is unique in that all stakeholders benefit - patients get more convenient care, nurses get access to flexible work for better pay on their days off, pharmacies fill more prescriptions, impacted hospitals reduce admission for loss-leading low reimbursement patients, and payors enjoy 12x reduced costs when care is delivered at home.

Float is a Y Combinator W22 alum startup. We've successfully demonstrated multi-state expansion, validated strong unit economics, and boast remarkable retention of patients, nurses, and pharmacies. We’ve facilitated over 100,000 patient visits with a network of 1,400 nurses and are scaling our platform, team, and operations to serve more geographies and patients.

We're currently serving patients in California, Nevada, Arizona, Texas, Washington, Michigan, Indiana, Georgia, and Ohio with several new states on the horizon.

The Role

We're a small engineering team (2–5 engineers) moving fast on a platform that serves nurses, patients, pharmacies, and an internal ops team — each with distinct product and technical needs. You'll report directly to engineering leadership and have immediate, meaningful ownership across the stack.

This is a high-autonomy role with low red tape. You'll work directly with customers and internal stakeholders, turn ambiguous problems into shipped products, and see the impact of your work quickly. If you thrive in an environment where you can identify a problem on Monday and have a fix in production by Friday, this is the right seat for you.

What You’ll Do

  • Own and ship high-impact features end-to-end, from technical design through production.

  • Work directly with nurses, pharmacy partners, and internal ops to understand real pain points and build solutions that address them.

  • Set a high technical bar through design reviews, code review, and hands-on execution — not just oversight.

  • Identify and drive technical initiatives around code quality, observability, and testing without waiting for permission.

  • Translate ambiguous business requirements into concrete engineering plans and deliver them with minimal hand-holding.

  • Collaborate across functions and communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders about tradeoffs and timelines.

Required Skills

  • 7+ years of professional experience as a software engineer.

  • Proficiency in Golang — this is our primary backend language.

  • Experience with web services and REST API development.

  • Comfort working in early-stage product environments where requirements evolve rapidly.

  • Strong written and written communication skills; you can work effectively across engineering, ops, and customer-facing teams.

  • Based in the US and available to work on US hours.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working on marketplace products.

  • Experience in Frontend technologies.

  • Familiarity with AWS, Terraform, and Kubernetes.

  • Experience with data analysis and SQL.

  • Background working on distributed teams.

  • BS/MS/PhD in Engineering, Computer Science or related field

What To Expect From Our Hiring Process

Our process runs in three rounds. You'll start with an intro call with the hiring manager, then a technical stage with our Staff Software Engineer. The final round is a set of conversations on technical depth, role fit, and how you work. From there, we talk to a few references by phone and make an offer. An in-person interview in San Francisco is part of the process.

Benefits & Perks

  • Medical, dental, vision

  • 401k matching

  • Unlimited PTO with minimum days

  • Paid parental leave

  • Phone & internet monthly stipend

  • Annual Learning Stipend

  • HSA & FSA

  • Voluntary Life, Accident, Hospital, and Critical Illness Insurance

  • Zero commute. Work wherever you are within the US

Compensation
