Primary objective
The Senior Software Engineer will provide application strategy and architecture guidance and advice, contribute specialist expertise to
systems design, development and implementation of ICT applications and ensure strategic alignment of applications with business
objectives and priorities.
Context statement
Agency Business Systems (ABS) manage client agenciesโ core business digital systems through their life cycle from strategy to design,
development, release and deployment, operational delivery, maintenance, support, and retirement.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Oversee and undertake the design (business analysis), development, implementation, documentation, and support of applications (both
custom and commercial).
- Contribute expert knowledge to strategic and operational planning and identify opportunities for innovation and continuous
improvement regarding software engineering services.
- Contribute to application architecture policy, standards and component selection and ensure they are applied effectively to achieve
business outcomes and manage risks.

Prepare advice and contribute to policy, processes, and procedures to ensure best practice service delivery.

Foster a client focussed service delivery culture incorporating comprehensive stakeholder collaboration to ensure that business
requirements are well understood, and solutions are effective and easy to use whilst still complying with the requisite policies,
guidelines, and standards.
Selection criteria
Essential
- Significant experience in the design, development, implementation, management and support of software solutions, systems, and
applications for use on desktop or mobile client devices.

Significant experience and knowledge in Microsoft .NET.

Knowledge and experience with front-end development technologies.

Experience using Object-Relational Mappings (ORMs).

Knowledge and experience of relational databases.

Proven prioritisation skills and demonstrated ability to achieve objectives with limited supervision.

Excellent oral and written communication skills including experience writing technical documents and proven abilities to establish and
sustain good working relationships.
- Demonstrated work ethic and attitude which emulates DCDD values of being professional, accountable, honest, respectful, and
innovative.
Desirable

A relevant degree or higher academic qualification.

Experience with MQ Series middleware, C#, Visual Basic, and Microsoft Access.

Qualification in project management and related methodologies such as Prince2, SCRUM and ITIL.
