ABOUT THE POSITION
The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for creating, maintaining, and updating Penn Vet's B2B eCommerce website. This position will be a key player in achieving digital and eCommerce goals, having an immediate effect on our brand and customer experience.
This position can be remote, hybrid or onsite: candidates must be able to have a designated home office space to allow a quiet and secure work environment using Penn Vet provided equipment
.
Essential Responsibilities

Collaborates with business stakeholders, other developers, and other teams to understand project requirements and translate them into technical deliverables.

Designs and implements scalable, responsive, and user-friendly web applications with a focus on both front-end and back-end development.

Develops well-structured and efficient code using appropriate programming languages and frameworks, ensuring high performance and maintainability.

Creates and maintains databases, APIs and server-side functionalities to support seamless dataflow and application functionality.

Ensures the security and integrity of web applications by implementing best practices for authentication, authorization, and data protection.

Analyzes, supports, maintains, refactors, and modernizes legacy code.

Participates in code reviews, providing and receiving constructive feedback to maintain code quality and consistency across the team.

Completes other related duties as assigned, customary to department and role.
Requirements
-
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field and 5+ years of experience and knowledge in the following areas:
-
Core Java (8 and 21+), Java EE development, REST APIs, etc.

IDEs such as Eclipse (IBM Rational Application Developer) and Jetbrains Intellij
-
Front-end technologies including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
-
Complex SQL and relational databases (DB2 / DB2 for I, PostgresSQL)
-
Unit testing frameworks such as Junit, source control such as Git, and Java build/dependency frameworks such as Maven
-

Strong experience with installation, configuration, upgrade, and administration of Linux environments
-
Strong experience with installation, configuration, upgrade, and administration of HCL Digital Experience, IBM WebSphere Application Server, IBM DB2, and/or OpenLiberty
-
Solid understanding of software design patterns, principles, standards, best practices, and security
-
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Strong attention to detail, well organized

Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate sophisticated technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Ability to organize one’s own activities and manage multiple priorities independently while also working as an active member of a team

Ability to work outside normal hours to deploy code changes, update/maintain OS, software, frameworks and all other aspects of the ecommerce ecosystem.

Preferred Experience

Strong experience with eCommerce website development

Strong experience with JavaScript and responsive site design

Strong experience with JavaScript frameworks such as Node.js, React, and/or Next.js

Strong experience with IBM Portal/HCL Digital Experience development including Portlets and WCM

Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
