Senior Software Engineer

We are seeking a product-minded senior engineer who directs AI agents, owns what ships, and cares about delivering real value to the communities we serve.

As a senior software engineer at TrueRoll, you will work closely with our product and engineering teams to build the tools county assessor offices use every day to run fairer, more efficient property tax systems. Most of our code is written by agents. Your job is to direct that work and own the result: run agents against our codebase, break problems into tasks an agent can finish, review and verify what comes back, and build the loops that make the next round better than the last. Your work will have a direct impact on the communities we serve.

Responsibilities

• Live our core values: customer focused, treat others with respect and empathy, own it, and go the extra mile.

• Run agents in parallel and in the background against our codebase, and coordinate them: decompose a spec into bounded, independent tasks, isolate them, and keep them from colliding.

• Own the review and verification loop. When code generation is cheap, this is the job: review agent output for correctness, patterns, and blast radius, and decide what is safe to auto-approve.

• Build and maintain the agent infrastructure: skills, approval policies, hooks, capture and documentation automations, and the correction loops that make the system improve on its own.

• Ship features across our products behind feature flags, deploying multiple times a week, with an eye on scale across many counties on shared infrastructure.

• Mentor and coach teammates on technical best practices, agentic workflows, and architectural patterns.

• Plan before you build: write the spec, put tests first, and let agents execute against it.

• Get in front of clients when it helps. Look at how a county actually works, find the real problem, and translate it into what the system should do.

• Proactively collaborate with Customer Success to resolve technical issues.

Requirements

• You use an agentic coding tool (Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent) every day, and you can say specifically what you delegate to it and what you refuse to hand it.

• You have coordinated more than one agent at a time, and you know the failure modes (goal drift, file collision, runaway loops that burn budget while reporting success) and how to guard against them.

• You are a strong reviewer. You catch the architectural problem, not just the typo, and you push back on output that is confident and wrong.

• You have a spec-first instinct and you write down what "done" means.

• You are product-minded and comfortable getting in front of clients.

• You think in systems, in loops, and at scale: the data model, multi-tenancy, observability, and cost across many counties, not one-off fixes for one client.

• 8+ years of experience shipping real software, including time at a small company where you owned things end to end.

• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred qualifications

• Familiarity with our stack, which helps you direct and review the agents well: Vue 3, TypeScript, Pinia, PrimeVue, Tailwind; Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL with PostGIS, Celery, Redis.

• Experience writing agent files, Claude or Cursor skills, hooks, or approval policies for a whole team rather than just yourself.

• Playwright, MCP, and feature-flag systems.

• Component library or design-system experience.

• Auth0, Sentry, Datadog, and AWS.

• Experience in govtech, proptech, fintech, or another regulated domain, and building for government or workflow-heavy users.
