Description
Amazon Leo is developing a constellation of 3,236 low-Earth-orbit satellites to increase global broadband access.
The VirtSat platform provides high-fidelity virtual satellite environments for software development, testing, and validation at scale.
The role works across cloud services, embedded software, and test automation.
Key Job Responsibilities

Design and implement AWS cloud services for satellite entity provisioning, management, and deployment.

Develop lifecycle workflows from instance launch through embedded software deployment and test readiness.

Build QEMU-based hardware-emulation plugins for satellite subsystems.

Create automated monitoring, alarming, and self-healing mechanisms targeting platform availability above 99.5%.

Develop test tooling for virtualized satellites, hardware-in-the-loop flatsats, and on-orbit vehicles.

Implement pre-validation, fail-fast, and retry mechanisms for provisioning workflows.

Analyze platform failures, implement fixes, and prevent regressions.

Mentor junior engineers, lead design reviews, and promote engineering excellence.
Basic Qualifications
-
At least 5 years of non-internship professional software development experience.

At least 5 years of programming experience with at least one software programming language.

At least 5 years of experience leading design or architecture for new and existing systems.

Experience as a mentor, technical lead, or engineering-team leader.

Experience designing, building, operating, and managing large-scale distributed systems or web services.

Experience working with Linux operating systems.

Experience with at least one object-oriented programming language, including Java, Python, TypeScript, or Rust.

Experience with systems integration and testing methodologies.

Deep understanding of CI/CD, build, deployment, and monitoring.
Preferred Qualifications

At least 5 years of full software development life-cycle experience is preferred.

AWS services experience, including EC2, Step Functions, Lambda, DynamoDB, CloudWatch, or S3, is preferred.

Embedded Linux, QEMU, or hardware virtualization and emulation experience is preferred.

Infrastructure-as-code experience with CDK or CloudFormation is preferred.

Experience building compute-fleet provisioning or orchestration systems is preferred.

Docker or containerization experience is preferred.

Availability and reliability engineering experience is preferred.

Compensation
-
The base salary range in Redmond, Washington is $168,100 to $227,400 annually.

Total compensation may include sign-on payments, restricted stock units, and benefits.
