About the Role
We are seeking an experienced
Functional Safety Engineer
to support automotive systems engineering and functional safety development. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with
ISO 26262
,
SOTIF
, and the development of functional safety work products for automotive systems.
This role will work closely with hardware, software, systems, validation, and supplier teams to ensure automotive products meet functional safety requirements and support safety-related development activities.
Key Responsibilities

Lead the development of functional safety system requirements and functional decomposition for automotive systems.

Review and approve
HARA, Functional Safety Requirements, Technical Safety Requirements, and validation tests
.

Contribute to vehicle architecture definition and confirmation from a functional safety perspective.

Review and approve
Development Interface Agreements
and other functional safety documents for suppliers and external partners.
-
Lead the development of functional safety processes, tools, readiness activities, and metrics.

Lead development of
SOTIF requirements
for autonomous driving and core vehicle subsystems.

Define functional safety concepts for systems, hardware, and software according to
ISO 26262
.

Collaborate with hardware, software, design, and validation engineers to ensure designs meet safety requirements.

Support hazard analysis, safety concept development, and functional safety validation testing.
-
Work with suppliers and internal teams to define functional safety interfaces and responsibilities.

Provide technical guidance and communicate safety-related issues and solutions to engineering and management teams.
Required Qualifications
-
8+ years of experience
as a Functional Safety Engineer or related role.

Bachelor's degree in
Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline
.

Extensive knowledge of
ISO 26262
and experience developing major functional safety work products.

1+ year of experience performing SOTIF analysis
and developing associated work products.

Proven experience leading functional safety analyses for automotive systems or products.
-
Experience supporting external or third-party reviews of functional safety work products.
-
Understanding of
OEM and supplier functional safety responsibilities
.

Experience with functional safety tools such as
Medini or APIS IQ
.

Experience with requirements management tools such as
Jama
.
-
Strong understanding of automotive systems, safety requirements, and hardware/software development.
-
Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in an
Agile development environment

Knowledge of
CMMI and Automotive SPICE (ASPICE)

Experience developing embedded system hardware and/or software.

Advanced degree in an engineering discipline.
