Job description

Software Developer, Entry Level — F2 Alternatives

Jacksonville, FL or Hackensack, NJ (Hybrid)

About F2 Strategy

F2 Strategy is a leading business and digital transformation services firm serving the global wealth and asset management industries. Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Chicago, F2 is staffed exclusively with former industry practitioners. Our 240+ team members have worked inside the largest bank trusts, broker dealers, RIAs, and asset servicers in the U.S. We know the systems our clients run because we have run them ourselves.

About F2 Alternatives

F2 Alternatives is our alternative assets division, built on the 2025 acquisition of HBMJ Consulting. Since 2004, this team has been the partner hedge funds, private equity firms, fund administrators, and hybrid managers turn to when they need to standardize accounting operations, streamline workflows, automate manual processes, and build reporting that scales. We specialize in accounting system solutions (SS&C Advent Geneva® and FIS Investran), back and middle office business analysis, custom reporting and development, project management, and staff augmentation.

The Role

Start your career where the code you write actually matters. As an entry-level developer on the F2 Alternatives development team, you'll build the custom reports and backend systems that power reporting for clients across the alternative asset space: no busy work, no shadow projects. From day one you'll partner directly with business analysts and portfolio accountants to turn real operational problems into working technical solutions, picking up exposure to fund structures and accounting workflows that most engineers don't see until years into their careers.

This is a launchpad role: you'll learn a specialized, in-demand technology stack, work hands-on with AI-assisted development tools (including structured opportunities to build skills with Claude), and grow alongside a team that's invested in your long-term trajectory.

What You'll Do

  • Participate in the full development lifecycle — design, coding, automated testing, and production releases of backend services

  • Work directly with portfolio accountants and business stakeholders to translate real-world requirements into clear development specs

  • Build and deliver technical solutions aligned to an agreed technical design

  • Learn RSL, a proprietary reporting language within Advent Geneva (a leading portfolio accounting platform), to build client-facing reports

  • Develop integration routines that connect the Geneva portfolio accounting system across domestic and international portfolios

  • Write complex stored procedures that power reporting across back-office applications

  • Build small, self-contained applications to manipulate and mine data, great territory for experimenting with modern tooling, including AI-assisted coding

  • Jump into short-term projects with a mix of quick fixes and larger enhancements to existing applications, sharpening your ability to move fast and adapt

Why This Role

  • Real ownership, early. You’ll own features that clients actually use. You won't be stuck on tickets nobody wants.

  • Modern tooling, applied. You'll get hands-on experience with AI-assisted development workflows, including opportunities to build and validate your skills with Claude as part of your professional development.

  • A specialized skill set. Learning RSL and the Geneva ecosystem gives you expertise that's genuinely differentiated in the market.

  • Built for growth. This role is designed for someone building a career. We’re looking for curiosity, adaptability, and a builder's mindset over years of experience.

What We're Looking For

  • A recent college graduate (or someone about to be) with a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field

  • Strong fundamentals in programming and problem-solving — we'll teach you the domain-specific tools

  • Curiosity about AI-assisted development and a willingness to learn new, specialized technologies

  • Comfort working directly with non-technical stakeholders to understand what they actually need

  • An entrepreneurial self-starter who's energized by ambiguity and enjoys figuring things out

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a known educational institution

  • Preferred Majors: computer science, MIS, or related field

  • 0-2 years of experience (financial industry experience is a strong plus)

  • C#/.Net experience required

  • SQL and UNIX knowledge required, AWS / Snowflake / Claude AI knowledge preferred

  • Jira experience a plus, as you will often work in an agile team environment

  • Interest and knowledge in the financial services industry and accounting

  • Strong analytical, quantitative, problem solving, and conceptual skills

  • An aspiring engineer excited about DevOps and IT infrastructure

  • Motivated and deadline/detail oriented

  • Must be self-managed, communicative, and team oriented

Benefits of Working with F2 Strategy

  • Opportunities for personal and professional career development

  • A great working environment and office culture, competitive salary and benefits

  • Hybrid work structure

  • Health care benefits

  • 401(k) savings programs

  • Gaining knowledge of different fund structures and accounts, building excellent troubleshooting and scripting skills
