Job description

Envoltz – Software Development Engineer

Envoltz engineers and manufactures the most technically advanced heavy mobile equipment and battery powered solutions for a variety of industries. Our products integrate a combination of mechanical, hydraulic, diesel, battery power, and advanced control technologies to produce safe, efficient, and reliable machines. Our most well-known machines are our diesel powered 40,000 lbs. underground cable puller trailers, our battery-diesel hybrid wireline winches, and our 1-Megawatt battery powered hybrid frac assist units.

To succeed in our industry, we strive to bring in the best talent in the world and provide them with the tools and support they need to do the best work of their careers. While we have extremely high hiring standards, a candidate’s past projects, drive, and congeniality supersedes their degree(s) & experience.

We're looking for a Junior to Senior level software developer who is comfortable taking ownership of a project and having large responsibilities. We are a young and growing company that is developing ambitious hardware and software products. Naturally, there's quite a bit of programming work to be done. This does not mean we want someone who can come and work 80-hour work weeks — quite the opposite really. We want high-level performers who think creatively and are intentional about where they spend their effort. While a machine controls background is desired, we are looking for someone eager to learn and grow in all facets of software development.

The ideal candidate excels in finding ways to contribute to a team, but can also be trusted to independently handle deep thought work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. (4 years or more of highly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor’s degree requirement.)

  • Basic proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, C#, Python, or Plus +1.

  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git, Autodesk Vault) and agile development methodologies.

  • Familiarity with 3D and 2D design software (Autodesk Inventor preferred) or willingness to learn.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills; ability to troubleshoot issues independently and as part of a team.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills; ability to document technical concepts and collaborate effectively with cross-disciplinary teams.

  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies.

  • Experience working in a manufacturing or production setting. Experience developing “engineered to order” equipment.

  • Outstanding ability to maintain and communicate priorities in a rapidly changing work environment.

  • A strong ability to communicate highly technical concepts to novice, non-technical, or interdisciplinary audiences.

  • Experience developing software for control of complex hardware systems (robotics).

  • Background in test-driven development and automated testing tools.

  • Contributions to open-source machine control or automation projects.

  • Knowledge of cloud-based machine monitoring, data analytics, or IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in designing, implementing, and maintaining machine control software for various automation projects using Danfoss Plus+1.

  • Collaborate closely with hardware and systems engineering teams to integrate software with machine components and devices.

  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code, following best practices and industry standards.

  • Participate in the entire software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design to deployment and maintenance.

  • Develop and execute unit, integration, and system-level tests to ensure software quality and reliability.

  • Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize existing code to improve performance and resolve issues.

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including specifications, diagrams, and user manuals.

  • As project workload dictates, offer occasional assistance to mechanical and electrical engineering team with tasks including but not limited to, hardware testing, prototype assembly, 3D and 2D design and modeling, and drafting of assembly drawings/instructions. Collaborate with the Quality Control team to identify and address software defects and ensure compliance with quality standards.

  • Contribute to code reviews and knowledge sharing within the software development team.

  • Contribute to 3D model reviews by offering considerations to mechanical and electrical engineering team that promote the success of software implementation.
