Position Summary
Dark Matter Technologies is seeking a motivated and technically curious Software Engineer I to join our Engineering organization. This role is ideal for recent graduates or early-career software developers who are passionate about building high-quality software solutions, learning modern engineering practices, and contributing to products that serve the mortgage and real estate technology industry.
The Software Engineer I will work closely with senior engineers, architects, product managers, and quality engineers to design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise applications. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, a commitment to software quality, and a desire to continuously learn and grow within a collaborative engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities

Develop, test, debug, and maintain software applications and services.

Participate in the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and support.

Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following established engineering standards.

Assist in analyzing business and technical requirements to develop effective software solutions.

Collaborate with team members during sprint planning, code reviews, and design discussions.

Investigate and resolve software defects and production issues.

Create and maintain technical documentation related to application functionality and support procedures.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives involving code quality, automation, performance, and reliability.

Learn Dark Matter products, platforms, development standards, and industry regulations.
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

0-3 years of software development experience.

Proficiency in at least one modern programming language.

Embraces an AI-First mentality when it comes to software development

Understanding of object-oriented design principles and software development fundamentals.

Familiarity with source control systems such as Git.

Knowledge of basic database concepts and SQL.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with .NET/C#, ASP.NET, or related Microsoft technologies.

Experience with Angular

Exposure to cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services.

Familiarity with REST APIs and web services.

Enterprise Integration Experience

Understanding of Agile development methodologies.

Experience with automated testing frameworks.
Success Measures
During the first 12 months, the Software Engineer I will:

Successfully deliver assigned development stories and defect fixes.

Demonstrate proficiency with Dark Matter engineering tools, processes, and coding standards.

Contribute positively to sprint commitments and team objectives.

Produce high-quality, well-tested code requiring minimal rework.
