AI Software Engineer - Agentic AI for Semiconductor Manufacturing

Location: Menlo Park, CA

Type: Paid Internship, with possibility to extend contract once performance proven

Reports to: CEO and Global Sales & Marketing Director

About SemiAI

SemiAI builds AI software for semiconductor manufacturing. Our platform helps fabs improve yield, predict process issues, and accelerate root-cause analysis.

We are building a lean U.S. hub in Menlo Park to support global semiconductor customers and develop young AI/software talent.

Role Overview

  • Build agents and LLM-powered tools — tool calling, retrieval, planning loops, structured outputs

  • Design the evaluations that tell you whether the system actually works, not just whether it ran

  • Explore and clean real customer data: undocumented columns, missing values, sensor noise

  • Build and test models on process data — and be honest about what the numbers mean

  • Turn prototypes into things your teammates can run, with documentation that holds up

  • Present a weekly demo: what you built, what broke, what you learned

Qualifications

  • Current student or recent graduate in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Statistics, Physics or a related field

  • Strong Python — comfortable with pandas and NumPy, and comfortable reading code you didn't write

  • Hands-on experience building with LLMs: API calls, prompting, tool use, retrieval, or agent loops. Personal projects count fully.

  • Solid ML fundamentals — train/validation/test discipline, evaluation metrics, and an instinct for when a result looks too good to be true

  • Fluent with AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor or Copilot, and thoughtful about where you trust them and where you don't

  • Real curiosity about a physical, industrial domain you've never worked in

  • Authorized to work in the United States

Why SemiAI

Semiconductor manufacturing is one of the few places where an AI agent has to actually be right. A bad prediction doesn't just look bad in a demo — it scraps wafers worth more than a car. That constraint makes the engineering harder and far more interesting.

You'd be one of a small number of people in our U.S. hub, working directly with the CEO and our AI Engineers, on systems that go in front of real semiconductor customers. We built the U.S. team deliberately as a talent engine: we hand smart junior people real problems and grow the strongest into future AI and customer-technology leaders.

Pay: $20.00 - $40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20.0 – 40.0 per week
