About the Role

Chariot is looking for a Backend / Full Stack Software Engineer with 2+ years of experience to join an engineering team building financial infrastructure that already processes billions of dollars in nonprofit payments.

You'll own systems end-to-end—from architecture and design through production—while working directly with founders and engineering leadership.

This is a high-autonomy environment where your technical judgment and opinions directly influence what gets built. You'll collaborate through whiteboarding, technical discussions, and rapid iteration in a fast-moving engineering culture.

What You'll Do

• Build and own backend applications and components powering Chariot's payment platform end-to-end.

• Design, develop, and ship scalable systems from concept through production.

• Contribute to architecture decisions across APIs, backend systems, and infrastructure.

• Help establish engineering standards and best practices.

• Collaborate directly with founders, product, and engineering teams through technical discussions and whiteboarding.

• Improve real-time monitoring and alerting to better understand system and user behavior.

• Work across different areas of the platform rather than being limited to a single product or silo.

Requirements

Required:

• 2–10 years of experience in backend engineering.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or another technical field.

• Experience at a reputable, growing technology company, preferably a VC-backed startup.

• Proven experience building and owning scalable backend systems end-to-end.

• Production experience with Docker and Kubernetes.

• Strong technical judgment and ability to communicate clearly in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to Have:

• Fintech or payments infrastructure experience.

• Proficiency in Go or Node.js.

• Experience with Terraform and AWS.

• Experience with REST APIs and/or gRPC.

• Experience with PostgreSQL and cloud infrastructure.

Important

This role requires 4 days per week in the New York City office (Monday–Thursday), with remote work on Fridays. Candidates should be able to work on-site or be willing to relocate to NYC.
