Software Engineer, Security
Jobgether
Job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineer, Security based in the United States.
This is a senior, hands-on security engineering role with end-to-end ownership across a rapidly evolving AI-focused technology environment.
Youâll work across product, infrastructure, corporate, and IT security rather than owning a narrowly defined security domain.
The role combines strong software engineering with practical security execution, from fixing vulnerabilities to strengthening systems and tooling.
Youâll collaborate closely with engineers and researchers while directly implementing solutions instead of simply providing recommendations.
As part of a small and dynamic engineering organization, youâll have significant autonomy and influence over security practices and architecture.
The environment rewards builders who can navigate ambiguity, identify problems independently, and move quickly from discovery to resolution.
This opportunity is particularly suited to an experienced engineer who wants to shape security at the intersection of software engineering and advanced AI.
Accountabilities:
-
Own security engineering initiatives across the organization, spanning product, infrastructure, corporate systems, and IT environments.
-
Identify and directly resolve authentication and authorization vulnerabilities and weaknesses across the platform.
-
Improve the management, protection, and lifecycle of keys, credentials, and secrets across projects and systems.
-
Harden internal tooling and safely integrate off-band tools created by other engineering teams into the broader platform.
-
Refactor permissioning systems and reduce the exposure of sensitive capabilities within administrative systems.
-
Contribute directly to core backend engineering initiatives alongside the broader engineering team.
-
Lead and execute security reviews to identify risks and implement practical remediation strategies.
-
Participate in incident response activities and help strengthen security processes and tooling based on lessons learned.
-
Evaluate security needs across different areas of the business and adapt priorities as organizational and technical requirements evolve.
-
Partner closely with engineers and technical stakeholders to embed security into systems and development practices.
-
Take ownership of security problems from identification through implementation and verification rather than simply escalating them to other teams.
-
Help shape security architecture, engineering practices, and operational processes as the organization continues to scale.
Requirements:
-
7+ years of experience building and shipping production software, or 5+ years with exceptional relevant experience.
-
Strong software engineering fundamentals, including the ability to meet rigorous coding and system design standards.
-
Broad security expertise spanning product security, infrastructure security, and corporate/IT security.
-
Generalist mindset with the ability and willingness to work across multiple security domains rather than specializing in a narrow area.
-
Experience working in an early-stage startup environment, ideally as one of the first dedicated security engineers or hires.
-
Strong builder mentality and comfort operating without a fixed roadmap, established processes, or extensive product management support.
-
Ability to independently identify problems, determine practical solutions, and implement fixes directly.
-
Strong understanding of software architecture, authentication, authorization, permissions, secrets management, and secure systems design.
-
Ability to collaborate effectively with software engineers, researchers, and other technical stakeholders.
-
Experience with Python or Ruby on Rails is a plus.
-
Computer Science degree from a highly regarded institution or an equivalent STEM background.
-
Strong judgment, ownership, adaptability, and communication skills suited to a fast-moving technical environment.
Benefits:
-
Competitive compensation package aligned with experience and role scope.
-
Fully remote position available within the United States.
-
Opportunity to work at the intersection of security engineering and advanced AI technology.
-
Significant end-to-end ownership across product, infrastructure, corporate, and IT security.
-
Hands-on engineering environment where security issues are addressed directly and collaboratively.
-
Opportunity to work closely with highly experienced engineers and researchers from leading technology organizations.
-
Exposure to complex, evolving security challenges created by the rapid development and adoption of AI.
-
Flexible location, with the possibility of occasional travel for in-person collaboration with engineering teams.
-
Opportunity to shape security practices, tooling, and architecture within a small and dynamic engineering organization.
