Staff Software Engineer — Digital & eCommerce (Contract)

We're currently hiring for a contract Staff Software Engineer role with one of our clients.

About the Role

Our client's Digital and eCommerce division is transforming its technology engine to power the future of life science commerce. As a Staff Software Engineer, you'll take a leadership role on a product team, designing and building new features and components within an evolving platform — embracing modern principles like microservices and event-driven architectures.

About the Technology

The Digital and eCommerce team operates several B2B websites and direct digital sales channels through a globally deployed, cloud-based platform that drives growth for the client's life science business. They provide a comprehensive product catalog, enabling customers to discover, purchase, and access detailed scientific information — all in one place.

What You'll Do

• Own one or more services as part of an Agile development team

• Provide technical leadership, driving designs that support business goals

• Champion excellence in design, code, testing, and operations

• Lead by example — embracing change and fostering a culture of growth and learning

• Mentor team members through code and design reviews

• Partner with product owners to refine the backlog, breaking features and epics into executable stories

• Design and implement robust data pipelines to ingest, process, and store large volumes of data

• Stay current with data engineering trends and bring innovative solutions to the table

What You'll Bring

Education:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent

Required:

• 8–10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience

• Recent, hands-on experience with Java, Kotlin, Oracle, Postgres, Spring, and Spring Boot

• Experience with Kafka and in-memory caching

• Strong background developing REST services

• Experience with unit testing frameworks

• Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions

• Comfortable collaborating across cross-functional and global teams, with a flexible schedule

• Excellent problem-solving skills and a customer-centric mindset

• Strong communication skills

Nice to Have:

• Microservices, CI/CD, event-driven architectures, and distributed systems

• Cloud platform experience (GCP, Azure, or AWS)

• Experience leading product-oriented engineering teams

• Familiarity with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, SQL, and version control (GitHub/GitLab)

• DevOps practices and Agile/Scrum methodologies

• Modern web APIs and full-stack frameworks

• Docker, Kubernetes

• Apache Airflow, Apache Flink, Google BigQuery

• eCommerce systems experience, especially B2B eCommerce
