Job description

Wiss is growing the engineering team behind our internal Digital Technology platforms and tools. The Software Engineer will design, build, and maintain applications and systems that support internal operations across the firm, working closely with the Digital Technology team on the full application lifecycle โ€” from requirements through deployment and support.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys building solid, maintainable software and wants room to grow. While the primary focus is general application development, the role also offers exposure to AI-powered tools and workflows in partnership with Wiss Labs, Wiss' internal AI innovation team, for engineers interested in expanding into that space.

This position will be based in our Florham Park, NJ office with a hybrid work arrangement (3 days in office).

LOCAL CANDIDATES ONLY WILL BE CONSIDERED!

Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. This policy applies equally to applicants regardless of national origin

Core Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain internal applications, services, and integrations that support firm operations and end users

  • Write clean, efficient, well-tested code following standard software development methodologies

  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and support

  • Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues; provide ongoing monitoring and support for deployed applications

  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and contribute to deployment automation

  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions

  • Build and maintain integrations and orchestration layers connecting internal systems, APIs, and third-party platforms to support reliable, automated data flow across the firm

  • Participate in code reviews, testing practices, and technical documentation to maintain software quality

  • Contribute to select AI-adjacent projects alongside Wiss Labs โ€” such as internal automation, integrations, or lightweight AI-enabled features โ€” as opportunities arise

  • Stay current with relevant tools, languages, and best practices, and share learnings with the team

Technical Skills & Tools

  • Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages/stacks โ€” e.g., Python, C#/.NET, or JavaScript/TypeScript (React, Node) โ€” with the ability to work across a mixed technology environment

  • Experience building and maintaining web applications, APIs, or internal tools in a production environment

  • Working knowledge of relational and/or NoSQL databases and SQL query writing

  • Understanding of object-oriented programming principles, the DOM, and standard web application architecture

  • Familiarity with version control (Git/ADO) and CI/CD pipelines

  • Experience with system integration patterns โ€” REST/SOAP APIs, webhooks, message queues, or workflow/orchestration tools (e.g., Azure Logic Apps, Zapier, Airflow, or similar) โ€” connecting disparate systems

  • Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) is a plus

  • Interest or basic familiarity with AI/LLM tools (e.g., Copilot-style assistants, prompt-based tools, or RAG concepts) is a plus, but not required

Qualifications

  • 3โ€“5 years of experience in software engineering or application development, ideally within professional services or a similar enterprise environment

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

  • Demonstrated experience shipping and supporting applications in production, not just academic or personal projects

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and manage priorities

  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available for this position

Compensation is commensurate with experience: Salary target is $110,000-$130,000
