Job description
Wtech Fire Group are an internationally recognised leader in Fire Safety and Security. We deliver the best Customer Service to attract and retain the Best People to work with the Best Technology in the Best Workplaces. We live our Company Values: Wellbeing, Technical Excellence, Ethics, Collaboration & Honesty.
THE ROLE
The QA Software Test Engineer tests FrameWorks, the Group's in-house multi-tenant ERP, and the systems that connect to it. The development team hands over new modules, features and fixes; this role puts them through a structured test process before release; finding bugs, testing beyond the expected path, and reporting what you find clearly enough to act on. You will also check that user guides match what the software does and makes sense to the people who use it every day: office staff and field engineers across the Group's companies, not developers.
We operate an AI-assisted development workflow. AI tools increase how much we build; this role is how we make sure what we release works. This is a hands-on role with a genuine growth path: strong performers can develop into test automation and software development over time.
Reporting to: Systems & Innovations Manager
Hours: 37hrs per week
Days: Monday-Friday
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
-
A genuinely inquisitive, methodical mindset: an instinct for edge cases, invalid inputs, and โwhat happens if I do this in the wrong order?โ
-
Ability to write clear, reproducible bug reports โ steps taken, expected vs actual result, supporting evidence.
-
Strong attention to detail and the patience for methodical, repetitive verification work.
-
Ability to see software from the end user's seat and flag what is confusing, not just what is broken.
-
Clear written and verbal communication, comfortable dealing with staff across multiple companies.
-
Level 7 or above QQI qualification in a related IT field, or demonstrable practical aptitude.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
-
Experience testing software in a structured setting โ QA, UAT, support, or power-user roles where finding and reporting problems was part of the job.
-
Basic SQL, or clear aptitude to learn it (checking data landed correctly).
-
Familiarity with bug-tracking or ticketing tools (GitHub Issues, Freshdesk, Jira or similar).
-
Exposure to test automation, or interest in growing into it.
-
Experience with, or aptitude for, using AI tools to draft test cases and documentation.
-
Experience of ERP, finance or field-service software.
-
Mobile app testing across Android devices.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
-
Take handover of new modules, features and fixes from the development team and run them through a structured test process โ functional, exploratory and regression testing โ before release.
-
Deliberately test beyond the happy path: edge cases, invalid inputs, permissions, and cross-company behaviour.
-
Log defects with clear reproduction steps and evidence; retest and verify fixes before release.
-
Verify that rebuilt web and mobile functionality match the legacy functionality it replaces, including checking data accuracy.
-
Validate user guides against the software: confirm the module does what the guide says, and that the guide is readable by a non-technical user; feed corrections back to the developer who wrote it.
-
Act as a contact point for end users during acceptance of new functionality, capturing their feedback and usability suggestions for the development team.
-
Maintain test records for each release โ what was tested, how, and the outcome โ in line with the department's change control and documentation procedures.
-
Undertake other appropriate duties assigned by the Systems & Innovations Manager.
-
Promote and maintain a positive HSEQ culture and safe work environment in conjunction with the Wtech Health & Safety Statement.
-
Proactively engage in all quality initiatives while ensuring best practice standards are promoted and maintained.
