Job Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our accounting team. This vital role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the organization’s financial health by managing core accounting functions, ensuring compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), and supporting various financial processes. The ideal candidate will be proactive, highly organized, and possess a strong foundation in accounting systems and software. This position cross trains with other staff accountant for coverage. The staff accountant role is responsible for processing cattle payments, daily USDA market reporting, yield management, freight payable processing and general accounting. Duties

  • Prepare and analyze journal entries, ensuring accuracy in double-entry bookkeeping and adherence to accounting standards.

  • Conduct balance sheet reconciliations and general ledger accounting to verify the integrity of financial data.

  • Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoice processing, payment management, and collections.

  • Assist with month-end close activities, including account analysis and financial statement preparation.

  • Compile weekly and monthly expenses.

  • Complete required bank reconciliation and reporting.

  • Complete Capex spending analysis

  • Utilize various accounting software such as Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft, UltiPro, Kronos, Ceridian, ADP, Paychex, and UltiPro for data entry, reporting, and system updates.

  • Perform data analysis using Excel data analysis techniques to identify discrepancies or trends affecting financial accuracy.

  • Handle confidential information with integrity while maintaining high levels of accuracy in all accounting functions.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP principles along with experience in governmental or non-profit accounting is highly desirable.

  • Associates degree required, bachelors degree preferred

  • Minimum of two years accounting experience

  • Excellent understanding of technical accounting concepts such as debits & credits, journal entries, account reconciliation, and balance sheet management.

  • Skilled in spreadsheets and Microsoft Office applications for detailed data analysis and reporting.

  • Ability to perform account analysis and account reconciliation efficiently while managing multiple priorities.

  • Experience with internal controls related to SOX compliance and audit support processes.

  • Strong numeracy skills combined with attention to detail for accurate bookkeeping and data entry tasks.

  • Effective communication skills for customer service interactions with internal teams or external vendors.
