Job Summary

The Staff Nurse at Cobh Hospital is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centred nursing care in accordance with professional standards, clinical guidelines, and hospital policies. The Staff Nurse works as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care for patients, promoting dignity, respect, and holistic wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Provide evidence-based nursing care to patients in line with best practice and hospital protocols.

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised care plans.

  • Administer medications safely and maintain accurate medication records in accordance with NMBI standards.

  • Monitor patient progress, report concerns promptly, and escalate when necessary.

  • Ensure the safe use of equipment and maintain a clean, therapeutic environment.

Patient Safety & Quality

  • Adhere to infection prevention and control (IPC) guidelines at all times.

  • Record and maintain accurate clinical documentation using appropriate systems.

  • Participate in audits, quality initiatives, and continuous improvement activities.

  • Uphold safeguarding practices for vulnerable patients.

Communication & Teamwork

  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to support coordinated patient care.

  • Communicate effectively and compassionately with patients, families, and colleagues.

  • Provide support, guidance, and mentorship to healthcare assistants and student nurses.

  • Participate in handovers, team meetings, and case discussions.

Professional Development

  • Maintain professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).

  • Engage in mandatory training and ongoing professional development.

  • Keep up to date with clinical best practices and hospital procedures.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Registered active NMBI registration.

  • Previous clinical experience desirable; newly qualified nurses may be considered.

  • Strong clinical judgement and ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.

  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Commitment to patient-centred care and professional integrity.

Pay: โ‚ฌ36,500.00-โ‚ฌ46,500.00 per year
