NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC)

The Role

You need to have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post.

An opportunity has arisen for a 32 hour post in Outpatients and Pre-Operative Assessment.

The successful candidate would be expected to work over 5 days covering both Outpatients and Pre Op Assessment. The job consists of completing a nursing assessment for Pre-Operative patients, chaperoning patients during examinations, taking and recording blood pressures, height, weight, pulse, temperature and urinalysis. Phlebotomy is essential for the role. Ensuring the department and rooms are clean and set up for the relevant clinics which include general surgery, minor surgery, general medicine, orthopaedics, renal, diabetic, respiratory, rheumatology, cardiology, Ear Nose and Throat, oncology, plastic surgery, urology, neurology and gastroenterology.

You will be expected to participate in departmental audits and will also mentor students and junior members of staff. Part of the role will be to answer telephone calls, take messages and co-ordinate the running of clinics in both Outpatients and Pre Op Assessment.

All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Location based in Royal Alexandra Hospital

  • Part-time position (32 hours per week)

  • Permanent Contract

  • Shift pattern for this post are Monday to Friday

Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • To assess patient needs, plan/implement and evaluate a programme of care which is evidence based utilising all available resources taking into consideration the lifestyle, gender and cultural background and ensure involvement with the patient, family, carers and significant others.

  • Maintain patient records in line with NMC guidelines for records and record keeping.

  • Practice within the legal & Ethical framework as established by Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) and National Legislation to ensure patient interests and well being are met.

  • Work within the National Health Service (NHS), NHS Greater Glasgow and Health & Safety Executive (HSE) Legislation, Policy, Guidelines and Procedures.

  • Empower patients to take responsibility for their health, well-being and future lifestyle by practising in an open transparent and inclusive manner, thereby ensuring patients have the relevant information to participate in decisions about their care.

  • Organise own time and that of junior staff and learners.

  • Ensures effective day-to-day management of other resources including stores supplies pharmacy and maintenance of equipment.

  • Regularly lead a team of nurses.

  • In conjunction with and in the absence of the Ward Manager/Deputy ensure that the nursing resource is utilised efficiently and effectively by managing duty roster/ sickness absence and the use of additional hours i.e. bank agency.

  • Contribute to the provision of an appropriate learning environment in line with NES Quality Placement Standards.

  • Complete clinical appraisal of pre registration nurses.

  • Participate in performance appraisal in line with policy.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • First Level Registered Nurse with post registration experience

  • Ability to fulfil criteria outlined in the job description
