HME is seeking a highly motivated Staff Software Engineer to join our Cloud Engineering team. In this role, you will design, develop, and support scalable cloud-based applications and services that power HME's products and customer experiences. You will collaborate with product managers, architects, and engineers across multiple teams to build modern web applications, APIs, and data solutions. The ideal candidate has strong full-stack development experience with Node.js and React, is comfortable working in Azure cloud environments, and possesses solid database design and optimization skills.
What you will do in the position:
Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain cloud-native applications and services.
Build responsive web applications using React, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
Develop scalable RESTful APIs and backend services using Node.js.
Design and implement secure, reliable integrations between internal and external systems.
Create and optimize SQL database schemas, stored procedures, indexes, and queries.
Troubleshoot application, API, and database performance issues.
Participate in architecture discussions and technical design reviews.
Implement automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps best practices.
Monitor and improve application performance, availability, and scalability.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions that meet business objectives.
** W** hat you will need to succeed in this position:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering

8+ years of professional software development experience.

5+ years of experience developing full-stack applications using Node.js for backend services and React for modern web applications, including experience with relational database design, SQL query optimization, indexing, execution-plan analysis, cloud database operations, and large-scale ETL pipelines.

Strong proficiency in JavaScript and/or TypeScript.

Experience building and consuming REST APIs. ยท Knowledge of Kubernetes is preferred.

Experience with Git-based source control and modern development workflows.

Experience working in cloud environments; Microsoft Azure preferred. ยท Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Experience designing normalized and high-performance SQL database schemas.

Proficiency writing and tuning complex SQL queries.

Strong understanding of relational database design principles.

Experience creating indexes, analyzing execution plans, and resolving performance bottlenecks.

Experience with database migrations, data integrity, and backup/recovery concepts.

Familiarity with data modeling, ETL processes, and large-volume data handling.

Experience supporting production databases in a cloud environment.
Pay Range: $136,300.00 to $181,700.00 per annum. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for the role. This may vary depending on experience and other factors. Our benefits package includes tuition reimbursement; 3 weeks paid vacation your first year, paid holidays, medical, vision and dental coverage, pet insurance, life insurance, and 401K contributions.
