What you'll do...

The Staff Software Engineer leads the design, development, and delivery of scalable platform capabilities. This role provides technical leadership, mentors engineers, and collaborates across teams to align technology solutions with business goals. Leveraging cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, and data-driven decision-making, the engineer drives the full software development lifecycle while ensuring quality, performance, and engineering excellence. Responsibilities include translating complex business and user needs into scalable solutions, conducting design reviews, promoting engineering best practices, and driving continuous improvement. Through innovation and operational excellence, this role enhances developer productivity, platform reliability, and the achievement of strategic technology objectives.

The OMS Engineering Team develops and maintains Walmart’s Order Management System, a critical platform managing purchase orders and inventory transfers across the supply chain. The team drives modernization through cloud migration and AI innovation to enhance scalability, automation, and efficiency. Focused on delivering reliable, scalable solutions, the team optimizes inventory flow, reduces costs, and strengthens supplier collaboration. Supporting Walmart, Sam’s Club, and international markets, the team builds advanced order management platforms that address evolving business needs and enable seamless supply chain operations with a strong commitment to engineering excellence.

What you'll do:

  • Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and machine learning frameworks aligned with roadmap priorities.

  • Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.

  • Lead full software development lifecycle activities including coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.

  • Conduct system design reviews to validate quality and alignment with architectural standards.

  • Build AI-driven applications and integrate machine learning components using multiple programming languages.

  • Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering best practices.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex problems into actionable technical requirements.

  • Drive continuous improvement through data-driven practices and innovation.

  • Lead the architecture, design, and development of scalable, high-performance software solutions using Java, Spring Boot, and modern software engineering best practices, driving technical excellence across engineering teams.

  • Define and implement cloud-native, distributed systems using microservices, RESTful APIs, GraphQL, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), Apache Kafka, CI/CD pipelines, and Microsoft Azure, ensuring scalability, resiliency, and security.

  • Drive data architecture and platform performance by designing and optimizing solutions using DB2, Cassandra, SQL, NoSQL, and Elasticsearch, with a focus on reliability, observability, and operational excellence.

  • Provide technical leadership through system design, architectural reviews, engineering standards, mentoring, cross-functional collaboration, and strategic decision-making to deliver secure, reliable, and maintainable enterprise solutions.

What you'll bring:

  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to ensure scalable and resilient systems.

  • Strong experience leading full software development lifecycle activities, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and maintenance.

  • Proficiency in conducting system design reviews and applying software design patterns to deliver secure, maintainable, and modular solutions.

  • Demonstrated ability in API design, software prototyping, and driving engineering excellence through continuous improvement and remedial action.

  • Skilled in data-driven decision making to define success metrics and optimize development processes.

  • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions to promote sustainable architecture and team growth.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
