About the Opportunity
We are partnered with a leading Fortune 10 healthcare organization seeking a Staff Security Software Engineer to join its cybersecurity organization.
This is a highly hands-on engineering role focused on building and owning a malware intelligence and threat research platform from the ground up. The ideal candidate combines strong software engineering skills with deep cybersecurity knowledge and can design, build, automate, and deploy security tooling within AWS/cloud environments.
This is not a traditional SOC or threat analyst position. The team is looking for an engineer who can build the technology and infrastructure that enables malware research, threat intelligence, detection, and security automation at scale.
Key Responsibilities
-
Design, build, and own a malware intelligence and threat research platform from the ground up
-
Develop production-quality software, libraries, APIs, integrations, and automation supporting security research and detection
-
Build tooling for the collection, enrichment, analysis, and operationalization of malware intelligence, IOCs, and threat intelligence
-
Develop and deploy security applications and services within AWS and cloud-native environments
-
Automate security research, threat detection, data processing, and analysis workflows
-
Integrate threat intelligence and malware research capabilities with broader security platforms and data pipelines
-
Work with large security datasets and leverage Databricks for data processing and analytics
-
Conduct or support malware analysis, IOC research, threat research, and reverse engineering efforts
-
Take technical ownership of the platform from initial development through production deployment and ongoing enhancement
-
Collaborate with security researchers, detection engineers, threat intelligence teams, and other security engineering stakeholders
Required Qualifications
-
Strong background in security software engineering or security-focused software development
-
Experience designing and building security platforms, applications, tooling, or automation
-
Strong programming skills with the ability to build production-quality software and reusable libraries
-
Experience with AWS and cloud infrastructure
-
Hands-on experience with threat intelligence, detection engineering, malware research, IOC analysis, or related security research
-
Experience building automated security workflows and integrating multiple security/data systems
-
Ability to independently own complex technical initiatives from architecture through implementation
-
Strong understanding of modern cybersecurity threats, attacker techniques, and detection methodologies
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience with Thorium and/or OpenCTI
-
Malware analysis or reverse engineering experience
-
Experience building or operating malware analysis/research platforms
-
Experience with Databricks
-
Experience developing cloud-native security tooling and infrastructure
-
Background working with large-scale threat intelligence or security datasets
-
Experience applying automation or AI-assisted capabilities to security research and analysis
Ideal Background
The strongest candidates will have experience at the intersection of software engineering, malware/threat research, and cloud security. We are particularly interested in individuals who have previously built and owned security or threat intelligence platforms, rather than solely consuming existing security tools.
This opportunity is ideal for a senior-level engineer who enjoys building from the ground up, solving complex security problems through software, and taking ownership of highly visible technical initiatives within a large enterprise cybersecurity environment.
