V2X is seeking a Systems Security Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 to join our Engineering team in Indianapolis, IN supporting cybersecurity for advanced mission systems. These systems include mission computers, avionics, sensors, and mission equipment for airborne and ground platforms. As a Systems Security Intern, you will work with experienced security and systems engineers to help protect mission critical systems through secure configurations, vulnerability management, and RMF support activities.
Responsibilities
During this internship you will assist with security documentation, baseline hardening, evidence collection, and basic assessment tasks while learning DoD RMF and NIST guidance. You will collaborate within cross functional Integrated Product Teams where effective communication and teamwork are important. In This Role You Will

Assist with system categorization and initial control mapping to NIST SP 800 53

Support development and maintenance of System Security Plans, POA&Ms, and security evidence repositories

Help execute baseline vulnerability scans and document findings for remediation tracking

Apply standard configuration baselines and STIG checklists to assigned lab or development components under guidance

Assist in assembling inputs for Security Assessment Plans and assessment activities

Support basic control verification activities and collect test evidence during integration or lab events
Qualifications
Required Skills:

Completed introductory coursework in cybersecurity, information assurance, or networking

Self-driven with a strong sense of accountability, able to manage tasks and deliver quality work on schedule.

Excellent written and verbal communication.

Must be a U.S. Citizen
Desired Skills

Strong communication skills and ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Fundamental understanding of System Security processes

Familiarity with vulnerability scanning tools, STIG concepts, and basic hardening procedures

Collaborative mindset with active listening and respect for diverse viewpoints
Education / Certifications
- Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s (or Master’s) Degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related discipline.
