Job Overview
The Tax Accountant will report to the Controller and will be responsible for many day-to-day accounting operations with a focus on tax. This is a great opportunity to gain broad, hands-on exposure to tax and accounting operations while collaborating closely with the Controller and cross-functional teams such as operations. This position will be located at our West Little Rock, AR corporate headquarters.
Duties & Responsibilities:
This role is responsible for:

Prepare and file sales and use tax schedules, returns, payments, and reports across applicable jurisdictions, ensuring accuracy and on-time submission

Maintain the company's tax calendar and related due date list, track filing deadlines across all applicable tax types to ensure nothing is missed

Assist in researching and resolving tax notices, discrepancies, and errors arising from prior filings, supporting the team member who leads this area as needed

Assist in preparing quarterly and annual tax reports and supporting schedules for internal and external reporting needs, such as property tax filings, annual reports, and business license renewals

Stay current with tax law changes and industry trends, and apply relevant updates to company policies and processes

Maintain fixed asset records, including the ledger (additions, disposals, and transfers); reconcile the fixed asset subledger to the general ledger monthly; calculate and record depreciation; and work closely with operations to ensure capital expenditures are properly capitalized and accurately reported

Perform bookkeeping for related entities, including recording transactions, reconciling accounts, and preparing financial statements as needed
Demonstrated skills in:

Attention to detail, particularly when reviewing tax filings and financial data.

Comfortable with technology, including common office and accounting software.
Qualifications and Essential Functions:

Bachelor’s Degree in accounting and/or 0-2+ years of experience in accounting preferred.

Public accounting experience preferred.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general ledger/ERP accounting software.

CPA or progress toward CPA licensure a plus.
Job functions require long periods of sitting and working from a computer workstation; ability to multi-task, problem-solve, and prioritize daily workload; excellent organization and record-keeping skills; comfortable with oral and written communications. Requires extended periods of sitting, normal walking, bending, twisting, and stretching. The capability of sight and hearing is required. Ability to deal with stressful situations and occasionally work extended hours. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
