Overview:
We are seeking a full-time Team Leader Software Engineering to lead Garmin's Developer Experience (DevEx) team at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for directing and coordinating activities of a Software Engineering team that is responsible for the tools, infrastructure, and telemetry that enable software engineers across Garmin to build, test, measure, and deliver high-quality software efficiently.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions

Lead a team of software engineers responsible for developer build tools, shared test infrastructure, software telemetry, and software health measurement

Define and execute the vision, strategy, and roadmap for development tooling and engineering enablement across Garmin

Partner with engineering organizations across Garmin to identify opportunities to improve software development efficiency, product quality, and engineering effectiveness

Drive company-wide initiatives focused on automation, standardization, developer productivity, and software quality improvement

Collaborate with IT and engineering teams to design, implement, and support scalable development platforms and infrastructure

Establish metrics and utilize telemetry data to measure software health, engineering productivity, platform adoption, and initiative effectiveness

Communicate strategy, roadmap progress, risks, and results to engineers, managers, directors, and executive stakeholders

Balance competing priorities across multiple product segments while ensuring alignment with broader company objectives

Directly supervise team members by providing coaching, mentoring, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities

Foster a culture of technical excellence, customer focus, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement

Participate in recruiting activities, interview candidates, hire, onboard, train, and evaluate team members
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math, Physics or related field AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR a minimum of 10 years relevant experience

Must possess detailed knowledge and experience with high level language structure in C, C++, C# and/or Java relevant to Garmin’s business needs

Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Must be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment

Previous leadership or mentorship experience
Desired Qualifications

Previous software engineering leadership experience

Demonstrated experience leading technical teams responsible for developer platforms, engineering productivity, infrastructure, CI/CD, DevOps, or developer tooling

Proven ability to define, gain alignment on, and drive large-scale initiatives spanning multiple engineering organizations

Excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization

Experience working with software build systems, source control platforms, continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines

Experience with test automation frameworks, shared testing infrastructure, or software quality engineering practices
-
Experience collecting, analyzing, and utilizing telemetry and operational data to drive engineering improvements and business decisions

Strong understanding of software development lifecycle methodologies and engineering best practices

Demonstrated ability to balance strategic planning with day-to-day operational execution

Experience leading organizational change and adoption efforts for new tools, processes, or engineering practices

Customer-focused and data-driven approach to problem solving and decision making
